Let’s Avoid Burnout!
I’m Super Joe Pardo and this is how we avoid burnout!
I get asked a lot to explain how I prevent myself from getting burned out even though I have so many projects going on. To me, the best thing you can do is listen to your body and know where your limit is. Then develop ways you can push through your limit. I’m not going to claim to be an expert at this, you already know how I feel about the word expert. But what I do for myself is know when I need to take a few hours off. Usually just laying down on the couch and relaxing for 20 minutes is enough to get my back on my feet. The other major thing I can do is take my mind off what I am working on. For me, laughter is the best medicine and I’ll watch some comedy shows like South Park or Tosh.O to relax and clear my head. Before heading back into work mode.
Another way I help stop burnout is by setting realistic goals for my day. I want to accomplish as much as I can every day. But no matter how awesome we are, we are still human. And when I do have days where I under perform I do feel guilty. So the next day I push myself harder to get things done.
One last thing to do is look at batching your work load. I know that once I get into work mode I am going to be that mode for at least 3 to 6 hours so I try to get as much as I can done in that time frame. This helps me stay on task, stay focused and get lots of work done. It’s not always ideal, but you have to be able to adjust and be flexible whenever you can.
