what’s your chess rating?
I just realized… If I’m playing on the board against someone across the world… I’d be required to physically move ALL of my opponent’s moves to play a game. (That’s quite a friction to the experience)
0? I never got a rating.
1600
It’s not at all unusual to have games on a phone call. Verbally telling each other the moves and both moving both sides.
It’s nothing new. But a valuable experience. You feel the moves are worth more if you are moving the pieces. Allowing you to glimpse the strategy being played against you. Perfect for learning.
This is also how I played with my father the last few years before he died. The only reason he kept a cell phone.
As a 1900-2000 blitz player, that would be great for beginners
Wow that sounds like a really great rating!
Really?? Seemed kinda lame, only a 1k player tho
I’d buy this for my daughter
Thanks for the shoutout.
This is a niche product and I’m not too sure there’s many ways to scale it as there are tons of chess games on phones that teach users quicker and way better.
Chess is a MASSVE MASSIVE sport and it’s grown by leaps and downs since covid. This is extremely well priced. It makes just too much sense.
@TopShelf Dustin Get over yourself. You can learn for freee and faster on a phone playing nearly every chess game out there
@22 Gaming not if you want to play with your kids or other people on person. And do you really want your 8-9 year old kids on a phone all the time?
Did you not hear the stats of on board vs digital players? Apps barely scrape by as an option. It’s cute you can play on your phone. But it’s not how we play in real life. Don’t you see the streets full of chess, baduk and so many others?
I’m in Korea right now working with a man who carries a cloth board in his pocket everywhere he goes. There are boards in every office and if you need one you can borrow one from security. They always have a few laying around.
I know New York and many other cities in the US have parks full of chess players. I love extending my stay to play with them. And you’ll find someone in every airport willing to play or learn.
The schools in China are absolutely insane. I hear they are as bad here. But I’ve seen kids beat in China for playing on their cell phones. Yeah, so the world plays on boards. Children play on their phones.
@TopShelf Dustin yeah maybe. Kids like digital better. You know this. I know in sports it’s better to play physical than virtual, no denying that.
If I was one of the sharks, I would have definitely invested in the entrepreneurs primarily and then for the business. If they have 20 patents and are responsible for a Garmin watch, they can definitely create similar products for their investors. I think Lori made a smart and a safe move. She gets her money back quick, holds equity, plus also stays on top of what they have planned next. I thought Robert or Mark would definitely be interested in investing, therefore I was surprised Mark didn’t. Robert, however, may have invested had Lori not made that move.
Who else skips the part where Joe talks?
I appreciate you watching and commenting Ali. This is the third time you’ve commented the same thing. Do you not want me to post videos anymore, by trying to insult me (because I’m not insulted). What is your goal?
@Joe Pardo u understand that people watch this cause the original video is not on youtube or hader to find?
@Harald S I have no problem with that, but what is the goal of trying to insult the source of being able to do what you are saying.
@Harald S You understand that the only reason he is able to post it is because he adds his bytes and opinion to the original content. It allows him to post this under fair usage law while avoiding copyright. If it wasn’t for him, you couldn’t watch it. Show some respect.
@Sage Kaleke yes thats why he gets the clicks and we the video. But still the talking doesnt add value.
Love the product.. btw nice review..
Lori was given a great offer. My brother won many 1st and 2nd place chess trophies, but the one he keeps (at his home), is a 3rd place trophy. I hope you teach your daughter how my brother taught me (about chess AND Life): Logical decision making with an alternative plan is better than remembering wins and losses.
My man make your thumbnail video in corner bigger! Like double that size. Good video though!
Thanks! I had been experimenting (always be testing) with different layouts. 🙂
@Joe Pardo yeah just big enough so I can still make out your facial reactions when watching. great videos though been binging!
Joe, keep up the good work. Your work has improved over the years and I’m happy to see you’re doing well.
Thank you! I’m happy to have you in the Super Community!
I’m totally here for this! Where has this ai board been all my life!
this seems pretty cool. i don’t play chess. but i do play Go, which is a chinese board game. i play it online and offline. and nothing beats the feeling of hitting the stones on that massive piece of wood board
Wéiqí is amazing. I prefer to watch the igo player’s but it’s so rare to find any outside of a couple major city’s.
Though I payed a ton to back this product. I’d have gladly payed ten times as much to back a igo board.
But you are right. Most of the magic of that game is the sound of the stones! Nothing like the thud of a chess piece.
What happened to mr wonderful he always used to offer deals on every company and in session 14 he did not offer any deals
It’s extremely expensive product not for me
I’m $1,100 in and trying to get more for my students. Absolutely worth every penny.
@Echo Hotel what do you teach?
Joe Pardo has the slightest idea what’s going on
I appreciate you watching and commenting Kevin. Please, feel free to enlighten us on what I missed.

Great video Joe, but you missed a great opportunity to talk about the royalty deals. Often those deals are bad if not down right insulting to the company. Here this one is pretty interesting. Lori gets 3% of all sales. On a projected 1.4 million that’s only 42k in the first year. Now if she blows this up, she’ll get her cash back fast. If she however doesn’t, this lets the company actually put the money to work without concerns of having to quickly pay it back. Compare with some some of Mr Wonderful’s deals where based on projected sales, he often wants his money back in under 12 months. This gives the business no time to actually put that capital to use.
All the best.
I just bought one. Kinda regret buying it. Lots of issues with them. Games crash a lot. App has tons of issues.
I’ve got two for my homes and so will have four more for my classes. The on board software is solid. They’ll work out the app eventually. We’ve already hacked it and running our own code so we know it’s got all the potential. They just need to kick the programmers in their bums.
Agreed. I also have it and could not play a single game without issues. Potentially it’s a good product but the software needs a lot of attention and testing.
I have Chess up. It is a Awesome product. I’m a visual learner. This board allows you to choose your on moves real time. When you can’t find a good move it teaches you. Every move of the game. And that my friend is priceless.
I love hearing that! I appreciate you watching and commenting John!
Got this yesterday, and I can’t wait to get good!
They’ve been crazy busy finishing fulfillment of Kickstarter orders. I suspect once that’s done (very soon), they will be doing more social media engagement. They are very active responding in their customer support forums.
That’s great to hear! I appreciate you watching and commenting Gregory!
Definitely not the first of its kind. But I did back this a got two boards.
Hardware is solid. On board software is well done but little space for improvement.
The true powerhouse is your cell phone. And the API to control the boards is great. Video lessons with on board indicators is an absolute joy.
Everyone I know hates playing chess. Threw my two boards in a room and they all fault over who would play who next for hours.
The only problem they used to have and may still do is good programmers. They’ve had the time to put out a more than functional app and they’ve barely delivered only this week.
You can tell these are prototyping guys. The hardware is solid asking with the api. They just need help finishing a consumer grade application.
Well worth the investment. Wish I had bought more.
I payed $1,100 but I got more than one lol
Totally worth it. Plus the bags and phone stands are impressive! Seriously would buy those separately.
I play chess a lot and my son never showed any interest at all.. I got one Joe, and my 6 year old son was fascinated with the board and all the moves lighting up. He wants me to bring it out all the time. Your daughter would love it.
Love that it enabled you son to be interested!! I’m still thinking about it. I appreciate you watching and commenting War Daddy!
Doesn’t the board lighting up prevent you from thinking for your self on some levels. But honestly it’s a great learning tool seeing the best moves. I like it
I appreciate you watching and commenting Sophia! So it seems it has different levels of lighting up. From giving you the moves a piece can do, to giving you the best move to make with that piece.
i hear this a lot, the light doesnt turn on when you are thinking but when you are touching, you are not suppose to think while touching the pieces
Bruh, no need to insult the person who is doing the commentary. If you don’t like hearing his commentary, then, fine, but no need to bring it up. That’s just plain rude.
I appreciate you watching and commenting Alter Ego! It’s incredible to me the amount of people who feel the need to try and insult me on my channel. But it’s OK, I’m not worried about what they think I owe them. 🙂
One thing I am curious about is at around 5:40 they say sales are 400,000. Later at around 8:30 they say sales are 1.4 million dollars. Can someone explain the difference between the two numbers to me?
i think the second one is the kickstarter funding and the first one sales from the web page
I would of liked to see if Robert would of offered. Also I was thinking is that Lori is connected with 2 brilliant inventors who have others products in their future. Lori probably thought about that.
Just received my board today! I can’t wait to try it out with my family. 🙂
I hope you leave a comment on how it works : )
@Cindi Goodridge I will probably shoot a video. Have to wait until after Christmas. 😉
Joe, I woul love to see better image quality. You don’t show a complete frame screen as it is shown in shark tank. It looks like cropped. Maybe it’s something related to the screen dimension. It looks better when you make the reviews, starting at min 11 in this video, when you pause the record. Cheers from Uruguay!
I appreciate you watching and commenting Arq. Martin Curzio!! That is awesome that you are watching from Uruguay! So the reach it looks the way it does is due to the Youtube Copyright System. If I played it like it showed at 11 minutes, the video wouldn’t get through the Copyright System.
I’m happy to have you in the Super Community!
Lori is right, playing the game of chess with a physical board is much more fun, authentic.
only about 60% of Americans use social media- not sure if their follower numbers are standard to other products.
This is a limited perspective of course yet
The few good chess players I know? Don’t do social media, freakbook, twittter, Insta gram.
Nothing wrong with being on social media if that’s your thing, promoting products yet,
many of us are not.
In this case, I don’t think those numbers will apply to the popularity of this product.
But it will require social media to market it!
Im a kickstarter customer. Bought it more than a year ago and finally just got it recently. Super fun and very innovative!
That is great to hear! I can’t wait to unwrap ours under the Christmas Tree as a family gift from Santa. 🙂 I appreciate you watching and commenting Dan!
I enjoy Chess and enjoyed the entire video
I enjoy chess too! I’m looking forward to getting to share it with my family when we open it up under the tree on Christmas. 🙂 I appreciate you Thai Days!

Haha thanks Tk. This is the original, had to re upload it due to copyright.
I’m so glad you are enjoying the channel Orange Sloth! I appreciate you and Happy to have you in the Super Community!! Now GO BE SUPER!!
Good product, but I struggle to see how many people have $400 to spend on a chess board that they will likely leave in their closet. The price needs to be drastically reduced.
I’d be happy to pay $199 if it got dropped down to there, right now it’s down to $299 and it’s still a bit too expensive for me to click purchase on
There’s a lot of well off people who enjoy chess like wine and cigars, they will easily spend this. For being a large scale consumer product it would need to be cheaper I agree.
@VitriolI agree 200$ is a much more realistic price point. I’m curious the demographics on the average user of the product because I’d imagine it’s mostly purchased by parents for their kids, at 200$ it’s almost always reasonable but at 400$ the parents take a risk of the kid a week after getting it never playing it again.

A nice chess set can already cost $200-$400 or more right now, so this is actually not terrible. A bit higher than I’d like, but I just went to the site and they are sold out, so I guess they’re not doing too bad.

Hey joe! Hope you are well. I just wanted to see if you can view the coinout pitch. Its a juicy content. Want your prespective on it!
Thanks!
It would be nice if it would also color code which pieces would be best to consider moving. You might touch a piece and it gives you options but it might not be the best piece to move. Also you don’t want to feel like it’s telling you everything to do so you would need it to adjust the assist to the level you are asking, Like training wheels. And I’m not sure just being shown what to do really teaches you.
The point is best move with the piece you think is the best to move then it’s no going to be a good product
@WebiWaboteloexplica exactly, otherwise you’d only be playing AI with your friend/family member just moving the pieces for the AI, which you can already do.

Hello sir, Good day. Can I get the link of the video it’s for my homework activity. Thanks, Have a good day.
Just found this guy
Your comments are great I wonder if there is a way to play quiet music while you talk a big motivator behind watching shark tank is the music that guides the video.
Hmmm I could probably do that. I’ll have to experiment. I appreciate you watching and commenting Noah. Happy to have you in the Super Community!
The chess player base is so big and between online chess and real chess there is definitely a sizeable market for this! As profen by the kickstarter.
I shopped around and went through ALL the available AI boards for comparison. The one profiled here was the best, and it still is!
By BryghtLabs, the ChessUp was my purchase and I have NO regrets, except I didn’t jump on the Kickstarter campaign to save money. I should’ve listened to my gut!
Buy the ChessUp, you won’t regret it!
Sounds very muffled
I ordered it within 20 minutes of learning about it. Delayed 2 months but seems very worthwhile and was 299 online.
Wow, I paid 398$ for mine. :-/ I do love it though and so do my kids! You’ll have a great time with it Nate! I appreciate you watching and commenting!
@@SuperJoePardo it’s Cyber Monday and I’m about to order mine for $279.00, I hope the price keeps coming down as the company progresses.
@@christopherguevara3571 It’s a really great experience, especially for kids who don’t know how to play Chess. My son was asking to play just the other day (with his little cousin). It’s been a little while since we’ve played. So Hopefully we will fix that soon. 🙂
Comment interrupter is annoying
I appreciate you watching and commenting Steve. This is a business education channel.
How good is the AI btw? Are we talking Stockfish?
I just bought this. Looks like an amazing device. I also got the Chessnut Evo but it’ll be a couple months before it ships. This device is really well made and is a great idea.
Yeah, I went for Chessnut Evo (delivered but can’t get to it as travelling till Xmas), so would love to hear how they compare and what you think of them both.
@CalBru the Chessup needs constant calibration and you have to be careful when you move and capture pieces in a certain order. All the chestnut boards actually have full piece recognition which means no calibration necessary and you can move and capture pieces however you want just like in real life. The only issue would be sliding pieces when playing online but there aree many apps that are compatible with the chestnut, such as white pawn, where you can add a delay if u like to slide. I got the chestnut air for $170 and there’s no way I’d pay $400 or more for similar sized boards with no piece recognition. In fact I returned the dgt Pegasus for that reason.
@@cooloutac I have played with it a bit now. You can adjust a setting of you slide pieces, but it feels very natural. Great for playing online but a surprise was that it recognizes any chess board so can work with touring videos or other apps.
@@CalBru not sure what you mean it recognizes other chess boards? I do know the chessnut is compatibile with many chessapps though like chess dojo, chessconnect, chessbase, whitepawn and some others. And with the evo you can even use it like a tablet for many things. I have the original air which is much cheaper but I have to connect with bluetooth to my phone which can be troublesome for some peoples phones, but is not a big deal for me. I love chessnut. I one day want to get the chessnut pro to have the luxury pieces and a full tournament sized board.
Just saw the add, I’ve played chess only in High school, have always wanted to learn. This is the best device to learn it from. I do not like playing online or reading a book. The market is Billions … probably more. This lady might become the richest person on earth due to chess LOL
i don’t think it is, not with that price
There are strong competitors such as Square Off, Chessnut, and DGT. I personally went for the Chessnut Evo over this, but … time will tell if I made the right choice.
@@dardardar1215yeah I got a chestnut air for $160. The fact it has fullPiece recognition makes it the best value.
@@cooloutac Having now played with it for a couple of weeks, I totally agree. I can even use it while watching chess YouTube videos and it recognizes the pieces. Really nice, and I’d buy it again!
boards like this exist, this is actually lower end price wise, they can get incredibly expensive, thing is they’re generally niche items for professional/serious amateur tournament players and this is trying to ride the chess boom to break into a larger mass market
like from the perspective of electronic boards are an existent product and they usually go for around a thousand bucks mid-range (and also aren’t packaged with super user friendly software for teaching you chess, the user is expected basically to set a lot of that up with professional software they likely already have) $399 is probably pretty reasonable especially if it’s as fast and accurate as they’re advertising
The problem with this product is that it only makes sense for beginners. For all of the more serious players other similar products offer a better physical board without all of the unnecessary “aids”.
The problem with this product is that it only makes sense for beginners. For all of the more serious players other similar products offer a better physical board without all of the unnecessary “aids”.
They did mention in the video that all the assistance features can be turned off, and it can do things like only showing legal moves. Or, if you’re a serious chess player, at the very least you can just turn the board off and play classical chess. If you’re playing online all assistance features are completely disabled.
@@x7N1NJ47x If most people are turning off the board’s distinguishing features then buying the board is pointless for most people. This seems painfully obvious.
