Your business is worth $4M when you make $4M
“A standard valuation formula is to take 3 times your gross revenue. So if your gross revenue is $1 million, your valuation would be $3 million.”
The valuation they came in and asked for what no where near the sales they are expecting to sell on. The other thing that I’m thinking of now that wasn’t brought up is, is the site/app stand alone or do they have a lawyer(s)/paralegal working in the background on each individual prenup to make sure it holds up? That of course adds significantly to the cost.
Kevin definitely was the best play for them, and I imagine they went looking for him out of the gate.
Also, keep in mind that technology based start ups are generally valued way higher due to the scalability of the model.
Now, I also want to point out that a business’ worth is not set in stone by revenue alone. Assets, time invested, expertise involved, process created, patents, team assembled, customer base (recurring), debt and so many other factors are factored in to figure out how much a business is worth. To your point Yvette, doing $4M is great, but if you don’t have a repeatable process then it isn’t worth that $4M to someone else.
To your point Bash, the multiple really varies by industry, niche and ability to easily replicate the money coming in over and over.

No… it depends on the multiplier for the industry. Software for instance has a multiplier of at least 20.
Not always – the risk/reward actually determines value. This company has a long journey ahead to prove viability.
What? What are you talking about? You mean in one year? You mean since starting? If its since starting what if it was in 50 years? If it’s in one year.. How much were you doing the year prior? If you see a big evolution and you can predict even better sales the next year why in the hell would you value your business like that? If I’m making 4 million in my company in one year why the hell would i sell it for 4 million? Thats not how you value a company. Just so you know for example Uber was worth millions while they were not even making money
That’s the reason in India our older culture had marriage at more younger age, so mostly 98% of marriage was very successfull. You have rightly pointed out brother! Doing great work carry on.
Pre-nups are anyways not valid in India so guess that wouldn’t be helpful in case marriage fails here.

I’ve seen a lot of times when the Sharks say the entrepreneurs are too early for the particular pitch. Whether it’s a start up or just something that hasn’t really picked up yet. I do wonder, they are screened before they get booked for Shark Tank right? Like there are multiple audition processes?
They chose the perfect sharks. And it seems like they had their minds sweet on Mr. Wonderful for this. Good for them for taking a risk trying to bring him in. It paid off.
It certainly did work out perfectly! I’ll be having Julia on the show in the coming weeks. 🙂

I think Robert is right ..rich people are the ones looking for Prenups and if they have a money they would spend few thousand on a lawyer and get a personalized advice rather than a cookie cutter advice ..and broke people arent looking for Prenups coz they are broke. Lol

Really surprised that you consider 26-27 to be “getting married later.” I think very few people get married before college, I’d say avg age is probably 25-29 for getting married.

Small is a relative term. But I’m not sure about that. Did you get to watch the interview I did with them? We talk a bit about that.
I think the opposite alot of people are divorcing because of birth control pills women take them they smell the men with them then the wedding comes along they stop talking them then they smell the men oh no he doesn’t smell good I don’t want to have kids with him.

When you are young that logic is understandable. As you get older, power of attorney is important. If you aren’t married you can’t decide if someone is to be kept alive or have the plug pulled in an emergency/ failing health type situation.
