Jared’s Life Story
Born in the royal city of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, on the same birthday as Benjamin Franklin, Jared was raised by a Culligan man/youth pastor and homemaker/life coach. Jared was permanently kicked out of Sunday school in the fifth grade. He met the love of his life in the seventh grade, and kissed her that summer at a Newsboys concert. His eighth grade teacher claimed that he would either “be a prisoner or a pastor.”
Jared came to faith in Jesus at the age of 17, and was baptized at a Christian camp the following summer.
Jared skipped 56 days of his last semester of high school and graduated from real estate college before he finished high school. He worked as a realtor, then as a used car salesman, but eventually got tired of selling people things they didn’t need. He spent 3 years as a youth pastor, which was more than enough. Jared and Michelle decided to simplify their lives- they took the 100 Things Challenge and volunteered at intentional communities and eco-villages as they backpacked through all 7 countries in Central America.
Upon returning to Canada, Jared interned on Vancouver Island at New Life Church, and was mentored by Christian author Mark Buchanan.
In between all this, Jared and Michelle started Hope for the Sold, after hearing Gary Haugen speak at the Catalyst Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Together they produced Red Light Green Light, which has been seen in over 100 cities around North America.
While filming undercover in the red light districts of Amsterdam, Jared discovered his great need for prayer, and so embarked upon a 37,000 mile prayer pilgrimage around the globe. He chronicles his journey in a newly-released Tyndale book entitled A Year of Living Prayerfully.
Jared spends his time writing, reading, speaking, and traveling. He also eats and sleeps with remarkable regularity.
The Brocks have been married for six years, and together they’ve traveled to over 40 countries. They live in a 1975 Airstream Sovereign Land Yacht six months each year, and spend the other six months on the road. They don’t have any children yet, but Jared would like to adopt at least a baker’s dozen. Michelle does not.
