Growing up, Tom, loved Disney World, and Disney music. His parents encouraged his musical growth by taking him to piano lessons, which gave him more exposure to Disney music. As Tom got older, he realized that being in a musician in Cleveland, Ohio wasn’t a good location for him to be able to support his career has a musician.
Tom was encouraged by a friend to move out to California to gain exposure and money for his music. Being a Disney fan, it made sense for him to be close to Disneyland and to embrace the area that Walt Disney himself spent much of his life.
Tom has several relaxation albums, as well as two Disney albums, available for purchase below. In this interview we talk about his musical career, but also his road blocks of moving across the county, and how he overcame them.

music welcome to show tom thanks Joe
thanks so much for having me it’s great
9
00:01:28,270 –> 00:01:29,80
to be here
10
00:01:29,80 –> 00:01:32,440
it’s great to have you here I really
appreciate you taking the time out of
11
00:01:32,440 –> 00:01:36,580
your busy music scheduled to be a part
of this when we get started by giving
12
00:01:36,580 –> 00:01:38,380
the audience some background by yourself
13
00:01:38,380 –> 00:01:43,839
okay uh my name is Tom as you said
before and I’m a musician that lives in
14
00:01:43,840 –> 00:01:46,479
California I’m from Ohio
15
00:01:46,479 –> 00:01:49,479
I grew up in Cleveland Ohio but now I
live in California
16
00:01:50,170 –> 00:01:56,289
I’m a piano player and I’ve been doing
it for a really long time and I play I
17
00:01:56,289 –> 00:02:01,149
release a bunch of albums i have a lot
of relaxation CDs out that you can find
18
00:02:01,149 –> 00:02:06,700
like I’m online and in stores not could
stop and but I’m also a huge disney fan
19
00:02:06,700 –> 00:02:11,320
so I’ve always loved Disney since I was
a little kid and then I started to learn
20
00:02:11,320 –> 00:02:16,150
music it was such an integral part of my
life so I decided to release disney
21
00:02:16,150 –> 00:02:21,40
albums as well but that’s basically just
a music I here in California trying to
22
00:02:21,40 –> 00:02:25,390
live the dream and you definitely are
living the dream i would say thank you
23
00:02:25,390 –> 00:02:28,420
look definitely expensive to be living
out there to be living the dream
24
00:02:28,989 –> 00:02:35,440
it is quite expensive let me tell you
moving from Cleveland Ohio to Los
25
00:02:35,440 –> 00:02:40,180
Angeles was quite a culture shock and
the prices i remember because I moved
26
00:02:40,180 –> 00:02:45,519
it’s been a long time I mean I moved out
back in 1999 but i will tell you it was
27
00:02:45,519 –> 00:02:49,000
sticker shock it everything your sticker
shock for me
28
00:02:49,540 –> 00:02:54,519
so what would you say inspires you i
would say you know there’s a few things
29
00:02:54,519 –> 00:02:58,840
that inspire me the first one is I’m
actually kind of a nature guy i love
30
00:02:58,840 –> 00:02:59,470
nature
31
00:02:59,470 –> 00:03:03,820
I love to look out and see you know
trees and animals and the ocean here is
32
00:03:03,820 –> 00:03:08,829
gorgeous i try to get to Vermont once
every other year during the fall i have
33
00:03:08,829 –> 00:03:12,640
good friends that live up there and it’s
beautiful and I’ve always been inspired
34
00:03:12,640 –> 00:03:18,10
by that that’s like number one and then
I also of course I’m inspired by music I
35
00:03:18,10 –> 00:03:22,780
love listening to music I listen to all
different kinds of music and of course i
36
00:03:22,780 –> 00:03:25,780
love disney music so the Disney stuff
really inspires me
37
00:03:26,350 –> 00:03:30,940
especially the movies that have recently
come out like frozen you know i love
38
00:03:30,940 –> 00:03:35,230
tangled was great the princess and the
frog i really liked so that kind of
39
00:03:35,230 –> 00:03:39,70
stuff inspires me as well and then of
course i just i love getting inspired by
40
00:03:39,70 –> 00:03:45,220
people and their stories and what they
tell me about it and I love talking to
41
00:03:45,220 –> 00:03:49,150
other Disney fans about their memories
of digital you know like the first time
42
00:03:49,150 –> 00:03:53,350
they went and what they remember
specifically from their very first ride
43
00:03:53,350 –> 00:03:57,670
or you know what was their first dealing
like when they met Mickey Mouse for the
44
00:03:57,670 –> 00:04:01,299
first time at the parks like what was
that like I’m fascinated by those kind
45
00:04:01,300 –> 00:04:05,260
of stories we both know i love disney
and and I’m sure the audience by this
46
00:04:05,260 –> 00:04:07,299
point knows that I love Disney
47
00:04:07,300 –> 00:04:10,390
yes I especially Disney World
48
00:04:10,390 –> 00:04:15,339
mhm it never gets old seeing people
experience things for the first time and
49
00:04:15,340 –> 00:04:18,519
and especially taking people down with
you that you know and love for the first
50
00:04:18,519 –> 00:04:22,719
time their first experience yes there’s
nothing like it
51
00:04:22,720 –> 00:04:26,20
yeah definitely and that’s what makes it
all worth it no matter how much they try
52
00:04:26,20 –> 00:04:28,180
to keep us out by raising the prices
53
00:04:28,180 –> 00:04:33,70
I know the tell about talk about sticker
shock even the price out here they
54
00:04:33,70 –> 00:04:37,390
raised at disneyland they’re really
raising the prices out here and I love
55
00:04:37,390 –> 00:04:41,500
going there but it’s so expensive but
they’re doing that out here because
56
00:04:41,500 –> 00:04:46,510
Disneyland has so many locals it’s like
it’s a big Park here for our locals so
57
00:04:46,510 –> 00:04:50,20
everyone goes there all the time so I
think they’re raising prices to kind of
58
00:04:50,20 –> 00:04:53,469
maybe thin out the park a little bit
because it’s always crowded at
59
00:04:53,470 –> 00:04:58,960
disneyland always well they have an
awesome product so yes they do they do
60
00:04:58,960 –> 00:05:02,739
you don’t move your disney world was the
only thing I had experienced growing up
61
00:05:02,740 –> 00:05:06,850
as kids because we look in ohio and so
we went down to Walt Disney World in
62
00:05:06,850 –> 00:05:10,420
Florida for our vacations then when I
moved out here I started going to
63
00:05:10,420 –> 00:05:15,370
disneyland and it took me a while to
really love it and learn to respect it
64
00:05:15,370 –> 00:05:20,710
for what it is because Disney World in
as you know is so huge I mean it’s a
65
00:05:20,710 –> 00:05:23,919
whole world but out here Disneyland is
much smaller
66
00:05:23,920 –> 00:05:28,240
there’s only two parks you know I think
our whole disneyland could fit inside
67
00:05:28,240 –> 00:05:33,40
the parking lot of epcot I mean I think
that’s how it is but it’s so magical and
68
00:05:33,40 –> 00:05:36,700
really nice here because it’s it’s
Walt’s park you know it was the first
69
00:05:36,700 –> 00:05:39,520
one who did that he saw through
completion
70
00:05:39,520 –> 00:05:44,560
and they have a lot of really fun things
that go on in the parks and i have to
71
00:05:44,560 –> 00:05:49,479
say i love the the haunted mansion right
here though the Haunted Mansion overlay
72
00:05:49,479 –> 00:05:54,219
for halloween is amazing where they do
all the jack skellington stuff it’s
73
00:05:54,220 –> 00:05:57,940
amazing and the Pirates right here is
really cool too it’s like really long i
74
00:05:57,940 –> 00:06:01,750
think the pirate Ranger Walt Disney
works in shorter to me but the one here
75
00:06:01,750 –> 00:06:05,919
is really long so I I really have
learned to respect it and love it for
76
00:06:05,919 –> 00:06:07,840
the charm that it is
77
00:06:07,840 –> 00:06:10,960
yeah definitely tho those things that
you mentioned I haven’t been out to
78
00:06:10,960 –> 00:06:15,489
Disneyland but from everything I’ve
heard it’s pretty amazing for on a ride
79
00:06:15,490 –> 00:06:19,270
to ride basis compared to walt disney
world which is a shame because the whole
80
00:06:19,270 –> 00:06:24,609
point of disney world was space right
exactly exactly
81
00:06:25,240 –> 00:06:29,409
well disney world has epcot though so
that’s my favorite part
82
00:06:29,409 –> 00:06:33,699
that’s a lot of people’s favorite Park
yeah it’s it to me apricot has always
83
00:06:33,699 –> 00:06:38,349
been crazy because if you drop up cot
away from everything else I don’t know
84
00:06:38,349 –> 00:06:42,9
that he would stand on its own like if
you dropped it in like the middle of
85
00:06:42,9 –> 00:06:49,330
Detroit or or anywhere really right with
me what people go to experience that cot
86
00:06:49,330 –> 00:06:54,99
outside of disney world that’s a good
question and I’ve never thought of it
87
00:06:54,99 –> 00:06:59,50
felt really owe their growth they’re all
great as a team but if you know if you
88
00:06:59,50 –> 00:07:05,169
take any single one out and dropped it
into a bubble and it stand on its own to
89
00:07:05,169 –> 00:07:06,849
have the kind of star power
90
00:07:06,849 –> 00:07:11,229
well that’s interesting I don’t know so
how did your dream of becoming a
91
00:07:11,229 –> 00:07:16,270
musician full-time come about well I had
been working i had studied piano you
92
00:07:16,270 –> 00:07:21,279
know since i was about 12 years old and
I had a good natural knack for it and I
93
00:07:21,279 –> 00:07:25,779
had a good ear for it as well it took a
lot of lessons and I study classically
94
00:07:25,779 –> 00:07:30,219
for a while and it was all really great
but I love pop music I loved you like
95
00:07:30,219 –> 00:07:34,659
Broadway stuff in jazz and that kind of
thing so i worked in Cleveland times
96
00:07:34,659 –> 00:07:40,360
about 29 years old and I decided to make
a move to Los Angeles to kind of broaden
97
00:07:40,360 –> 00:07:45,9
the career a little bit and let myself
have more opportunities because you
98
00:07:45,9 –> 00:07:49,570
either in Los Angeles or somewhere like
New York there’s a lot of opportunities
99
00:07:49,570 –> 00:07:53,200
for musicians so i decided to move to LA
first be
100
00:07:53,200 –> 00:07:57,219
as my sister lives here like she had
moved out here two years before me so
101
00:07:57,220 –> 00:08:01,210
it’s nice to have a family member out
here and then I had met don’t know if
102
00:08:01,210 –> 00:08:05,109
you know who Jim Brickman is but he’s
another pretty famous pianist he travels
103
00:08:05,110 –> 00:08:09,10
all over the world and he’s had a lot of
number one hits on the radio and he did
104
00:08:09,10 –> 00:08:13,210
a disney album for disney as well once
but I had met him because he’s from
105
00:08:13,210 –> 00:08:17,650
Cleveland and he really encouraged me to
come out to LA to say hey look you can
106
00:08:17,650 –> 00:08:22,60
you know there’s a lot more you can do
here and I said okay so that’s how it
107
00:08:22,60 –> 00:08:25,840
all came about I decided to do it moved
to Los Angeles and then just started to
108
00:08:25,840 –> 00:08:30,219
find whatever work I could you know play
piano restaurants you know pick up gigs
109
00:08:30,220 –> 00:08:35,140
I did some music directing when I first
got here for theatre anything I could
110
00:08:35,140 –> 00:08:39,699
get my hands on music and of course it
was really cool to be I live right by
111
00:08:39,700 –> 00:08:43,750
burbank so that’s where Walt had all the
studios like real like Walt Disney
112
00:08:43,750 –> 00:08:48,100
Studios is there the disney animation
and it’s just so wild to be like it’s
113
00:08:48,100 –> 00:08:51,520
literally five minutes from where I live
and it’s just wild to think like this is
114
00:08:51,520 –> 00:08:55,630
where Walt you know spent most of his
time here in Burbank is where he created
115
00:08:55,630 –> 00:09:00,10
all these studios and making movies and
it’s really it’s really fun but that
116
00:09:00,10 –> 00:09:04,300
that’s what made me move out here was
just the two say why not try it you know
117
00:09:04,300 –> 00:09:05,469
and see what happens
118
00:09:05,470 –> 00:09:08,560
I was just going to say that it your
story actually sounds very close to
119
00:09:08,560 –> 00:09:13,959
waltz seven does because you know with
his brother already being out there
120
00:09:13,960 –> 00:09:18,640
right right that’s true and yeah
sometimes when I go to Disneyland or
121
00:09:18,640 –> 00:09:23,110
even if I FL drive to downtown disney i
drive on the freeways and i really do
122
00:09:23,110 –> 00:09:27,40
think like this is the freeway the wall
drove on you know that he would take the
123
00:09:27,40 –> 00:09:30,910
five to go to Anaheim and this is the
road you take to go back it was like
124
00:09:30,910 –> 00:09:35,199
it’s kind of surreal when your disney
fan but that’s kinda like my quirky mind
125
00:09:35,200 –> 00:09:38,830
things like that but I think that
sometimes when i’m driving on the
126
00:09:38,830 –> 00:09:44,890
freeways back from disneyland so how is
your dream received by your family
127
00:09:44,890 –> 00:09:45,760
members
128
00:09:45,760 –> 00:09:50,590
well they always been very supportive
because they’ve supported my music since
129
00:09:50,590 –> 00:09:54,280
I was a little kid well since I was 12
when I started playing and when they
130
00:09:54,280 –> 00:09:58,689
first started taking lessons they put me
into a class just to see how well i
131
00:09:58,690 –> 00:10:03,280
would do and the class had a lot of
disney music that’s how I really started
132
00:10:03,280 –> 00:10:06,350
to learn now at the time you know I’m a
little
133
00:10:06,350 –> 00:10:11,90
holders oh this was like in the
seventies and early eighties so the time
134
00:10:11,90 –> 00:10:17,60
it was like Mickey Mouse Club and Pete’s
dragon you know and the Aristocats and
135
00:10:17,60 –> 00:10:21,920
the rescuers it was like all that kind
of music but I i really loved it so they
136
00:10:21,920 –> 00:10:25,130
were very supportive in and they were
very supportive of me coming to
137
00:10:25,130 –> 00:10:29,270
California because they knew they would
probably be more opportunities here for
138
00:10:29,270 –> 00:10:33,740
me just the worst cleveland you can let
go so much if you’re a musician you know
139
00:10:33,740 –> 00:10:37,580
and so they stay thought will come out
here and try to make something for
140
00:10:37,580 –> 00:10:42,20
yourself and they fully supported it was
really really neat was really great and
141
00:10:42,20 –> 00:10:45,890
they know that i love disney and they
love i love music and they thought it
142
00:10:45,890 –> 00:10:49,189
would be a good fit for me and they were
excited because my sister lived here as
143
00:10:49,190 –> 00:10:52,820
well sell I had a family member here
which was nice
144
00:10:52,820 –> 00:10:56,870
so what steps did you take to get
started becoming a musician and then
145
00:10:56,870 –> 00:11:02,420
what steps did you take to get started
moving and and how was adjusting to all
146
00:11:02,420 –> 00:11:06,680
that I know you mentioned as like a lot
of sticker shock that’s pretty obvious
147
00:11:06,680 –> 00:11:09,920
to anybody that knows the Californians
expensive
148
00:11:09,920 –> 00:11:15,589
yes it’s so true well what I started to
do was of course I tried to save as much
149
00:11:15,590 –> 00:11:20,630
money as I could so that was like just
practically speaking that’s what i did
150
00:11:20,630 –> 00:11:26,240
and saved as much money as I could I
tried to make as many contacts as I
151
00:11:26,240 –> 00:11:30,830
could in California before i move there
because I knew some people in Cleveland
152
00:11:30,830 –> 00:11:35,150
that had some context in LA so they
would give me hey try this person when
153
00:11:35,150 –> 00:11:39,290
you get there all my cousin you know he
lives out there now he’s from Shaker
154
00:11:39,290 –> 00:11:43,10
Heights Ohio you’re trying to get with
him and see if there’s any ideas you
155
00:11:43,10 –> 00:11:46,400
know and stuff like that so that I
really that’s what i did so i tried to
156
00:11:46,400 –> 00:11:50,569
contact a bunch of people to try to make
the transition a little bit easier
157
00:11:50,570 –> 00:11:54,680
because it was a big transition i mean i
have to admit when I first moved here I
158
00:11:54,680 –> 00:11:57,829
wanted to go back home like within two
weeks i’m like what the heck am I doing
159
00:11:57,830 –> 00:12:04,70
here you know I’m from Cleveland Ohio
and this is like so different and again
160
00:12:04,70 –> 00:12:07,820
my parents are very supportive of my mom
said you know give it a few months like
161
00:12:07,820 –> 00:12:10,430
you already moved out there giving a few
months and then if you don’t like it
162
00:12:10,430 –> 00:12:13,790
just come back so by the end of a few
months I i fell in love with it and
163
00:12:13,790 –> 00:12:17,870
loved it but that’s kind of the prop i
did was i just i just tried to make
164
00:12:17,870 –> 00:12:19,939
contacts i got all men
165
00:12:19,939 –> 00:12:23,299
music to their because i only had one
album out at the time but I made sure I
166
00:12:23,299 –> 00:12:27,529
had enough copies to bring everything
like my resume everything that would you
167
00:12:27,529 –> 00:12:32,269
know try to get me a job i prepared with
that and once I moved here I was lucky
168
00:12:32,269 –> 00:12:36,19
because I had my sister here so when I
was looking for a place to live like she
169
00:12:36,19 –> 00:12:40,819
could help me look in certain areas all
that good stuff and then as soon as i
170
00:12:40,819 –> 00:12:44,839
got a little bit settled i would just
try to venture out and try to get music
171
00:12:44,839 –> 00:12:49,129
work know whether it be through these
contexts I had or you know the theater
172
00:12:49,129 –> 00:12:53,179
that I somehow got hooked up with a can
remember exactly how that worked but I
173
00:12:53,179 –> 00:12:57,139
got hooked up with a musical theater and
then as you meet new people here then
174
00:12:57,139 –> 00:13:01,279
that spreads out like people know people
and people know other people you know
175
00:13:01,279 –> 00:13:05,329
that kind of stuff so it was kind of
like it took a long time though it took
176
00:13:05,329 –> 00:13:09,348
a long time to get adjusted me took me a
good year before I was even comfortable
177
00:13:09,349 –> 00:13:14,179
on the freeways here because that the
frequency here are crazy so I mean it
178
00:13:14,179 –> 00:13:18,649
did take me a good year to like get
comfortable enough to drive securely on
179
00:13:18,649 –> 00:13:21,649
them but that’s kind of what i did in
preparation
180
00:13:21,649 –> 00:13:26,779
so whether any roblox with getting out
there or once you got out there that you
181
00:13:26,779 –> 00:13:32,119
hit and had to try to overcome the only
thing I was pretty lucky in that there
182
00:13:32,119 –> 00:13:36,259
weren’t any like major roadblocks the
only thing that happened was when I
183
00:13:36,259 –> 00:13:40,970
first moved out here well I guess this
one is a roadblock when I first here i
184
00:13:40,970 –> 00:13:47,59
had come from a two-bedroom apartment so
I had movers move all my stuff and it
185
00:13:47,59 –> 00:13:51,919
was being driven across the country so
once I got here I live with my sister
186
00:13:51,919 –> 00:13:55,189
for a little while but you have to
understand at the time she had she lived
187
00:13:55,189 –> 00:14:01,579
in a guest house so it was like 500
square feet it was very very tiny so I
188
00:14:01,579 –> 00:14:06,258
came with just a suitcase and a couple
things in my computer and we set up shop
189
00:14:06,259 –> 00:14:09,319
there but I i said i only need to stay
here for a month or two something I’m
190
00:14:09,319 –> 00:14:14,449
going to find a place so i did find a
place in Hollywood which I was going to
191
00:14:14,449 –> 00:14:16,639
move to I put down a deposit
192
00:14:16,639 –> 00:14:19,970
i bought a refrigerator because out here
usually departments don’t have
193
00:14:19,970 –> 00:14:23,779
refrigerators you have to bring your own
so that was being delivered so i get to
194
00:14:23,779 –> 00:14:30,379
the apartment that I’m supposed to move
into and I hear this huge dog making
195
00:14:30,379 –> 00:14:32,400
like a ton of noise in the apartment
196
00:14:32,400 –> 00:14:36,360
next to me I’m thinking oh my gosh like
that’s going to be loud and the dog
197
00:14:36,360 –> 00:14:41,280
actually had jumped over the the balcony
onto mine and he went to the bathroom on
198
00:14:41,280 –> 00:14:46,500
my balcony and I was like I have a cat
at the time he was only three years old
199
00:14:46,500 –> 00:14:51,810
but I just have a little cat and I was
like my cat is going to go crazy and be
200
00:14:51,810 –> 00:14:55,859
so scared I was like I can’t I can’t
live here i can’t India you know I just
201
00:14:55,860 –> 00:14:59,490
moved out here everything was so new I
think that had something to do with that
202
00:14:59,490 –> 00:15:03,930
you know i just kind of panicked i said
i can’t live here so I I broke the lease
203
00:15:03,930 –> 00:15:07,290
why haven’t signed it yet but I broke
the guy let me get out of it
204
00:15:07,290 –> 00:15:10,800
I had to deny the refrigerator with it
like got there that day i said no i
205
00:15:10,800 –> 00:15:14,969
can’t accept it and then all of my
clothes all of my stuff was coming on
206
00:15:14,970 –> 00:15:19,410
the trucks from Ohio so i had to divert
them they have to go put it in stores
207
00:15:19,410 –> 00:15:23,579
like an hour away somewhere and it had
to be held there for another month until
208
00:15:23,580 –> 00:15:29,220
I found a better place so i guess that
really was a pickup for a barrier or a
209
00:15:29,220 –> 00:15:32,970
roadblock that was probably the biggest
one but then once i found the apartment
210
00:15:32,970 –> 00:15:37,350
I’m and now it was just it was much
easier everything was fine and moved in
211
00:15:37,350 –> 00:15:42,60
and everything was good from there was
gonna ask how you overcame the shyness
212
00:15:42,60 –> 00:15:47,939
of moving i think the shyness of moving
here was i’m from like a smaller town
213
00:15:47,940 –> 00:15:52,260
outside of Cleveland so that’s what I
was used to and then once I moved to Los
214
00:15:52,260 –> 00:15:57,180
Angeles it was so big and there are so
many people here and there’s so much
215
00:15:57,180 –> 00:16:01,410
traffic you know it’s just it’s like
overwhelming for me to come out of that
216
00:16:01,410 –> 00:16:05,490
shiny shell what I had to do is just
start exploring stuff on my own little
217
00:16:05,490 –> 00:16:09,300
by little like I remember one night I
said you know what I’m gonna drive to
218
00:16:09,300 –> 00:16:13,979
borders this is still borders were still
you know the thing I was like I’m gonna
219
00:16:13,980 –> 00:16:18,360
drive to borders in west hollywood and I
lived in sherman oaks which was kinda
220
00:16:18,360 –> 00:16:23,880
about a half hour away and I thought
that if I could do that drive myself not
221
00:16:23,880 –> 00:16:27,180
have to use my sister you not have to
rely on her to do it just do it myself
222
00:16:27,180 –> 00:16:31,620
take my car and go that’s what i did one
night and I was very proud of myself
223
00:16:31,620 –> 00:16:36,540
like it was a big achievement for me
about that ok i drove to borders and
224
00:16:36,540 –> 00:16:39,930
then drove home so I started to do
little things like that i started to
225
00:16:39,930 –> 00:16:45,89
drive and explore the different
neighborhoods in the city i would ask
226
00:16:45,89 –> 00:16:50,249
I had a couple friends by this time I’d
made a couple friends I through the
227
00:16:50,249 –> 00:16:54,240
theater job that I had done that I
started to do I met one of the director
228
00:16:54,240 –> 00:16:59,579
was a friend of mine and I said you know
can we go explore griffith park or can
229
00:16:59,579 –> 00:17:03,540
you take me to santa monica i just want
to see it and I started to do things
230
00:17:03,540 –> 00:17:07,319
with other people that helped me get out
of my shell because it was really easy
231
00:17:07,319 –> 00:17:10,799
just to stay in the apartment because I
was so overwhelmed you know and since
232
00:17:10,799 –> 00:17:14,279
everything was so new it was kind of
freaky but then i would just try to
233
00:17:14,279 –> 00:17:17,789
think you know try to calm myself down
and think what I’m here for a reason and
234
00:17:17,789 –> 00:17:22,559
I want to do music I’m five minutes from
from disney studios you know this is no
235
00:17:22,559 –> 00:17:27,449
this is not a bad place to be little so
and then as I started to do things on my
236
00:17:27,449 –> 00:17:31,260
own and get more work you know and meet
people on my own
237
00:17:31,260 –> 00:17:36,629
not just for my sister or the job things
just seem to start to fall in place for
238
00:17:36,630 –> 00:17:37,80
me
239
00:17:37,80 –> 00:17:40,830
so has there been any parts you dream
that haven’t quite worked out
240
00:17:40,830 –> 00:17:44,580
let’s see well there’s been I mean
there’s a couple things because you know
241
00:17:44,580 –> 00:17:48,600
when I first got here I thought well I
want to do this and I want to tour
242
00:17:48,600 –> 00:17:53,219
internationally you know I want to
record with so-and-so blah blah so some
243
00:17:53,220 –> 00:17:56,399
of that stuff hasn’t worked out i don’t
know if it ever will but I mean I
244
00:17:56,399 –> 00:18:01,110
someday I would love to tour around the
world you know doing venues or something
245
00:18:01,110 –> 00:18:06,539
or maybe even playing it like Disneyland
Paris or Tokyo Disney or you know
246
00:18:06,539 –> 00:18:11,730
something like that so that question
quite hasn’t worked out yet and just
247
00:18:11,730 –> 00:18:16,590
trying to think of other things at the
time I really wanted to get signed to a
248
00:18:16,590 –> 00:18:20,760
record label that was the other really
big thing I wanted like I want to get
249
00:18:20,760 –> 00:18:24,149
signed at the time it was windham hill
records because that was still in
250
00:18:24,149 –> 00:18:28,229
existence was really good independent
label and so I want to get with them but
251
00:18:28,230 –> 00:18:31,950
that never actually happened that was a
disappointment at the time remember that
252
00:18:31,950 –> 00:18:36,659
you know things are so different now
that you really don’t need a label so I
253
00:18:36,659 –> 00:18:41,100
mean it’s so different but remember at
the time this was like 1999 really
254
00:18:41,100 –> 00:18:46,49
before the birth of the mp3’s and ipods
and all that kind of stuff came to be so
255
00:18:46,49 –> 00:18:49,918
that was something that actually never
happen for me if you were stranded on a
256
00:18:49,919 –> 00:18:51,990
deserted island with your family
257
00:18:51,990 –> 00:18:54,970
what are three things that you would
really want to have with the
258
00:18:54,970 –> 00:19:00,130
alright let’s think because I’m there
with my family all right the first thing
259
00:19:00,130 –> 00:19:03,730
i would have we’d have to have some kind
of board game that’s the first thing
260
00:19:03,730 –> 00:19:07,750
because we love to play games so we have
to have some kind of board game or like
261
00:19:07,750 –> 00:19:13,150
taboo one of those so i need to have
that I definitely need to have music
262
00:19:13,150 –> 00:19:17,950
somehow so i don’t know like it’s a boom
box or her just a radio but i need to
263
00:19:17,950 –> 00:19:23,890
have that so those two things and then i
would love to have if i could and I’m
264
00:19:23,890 –> 00:19:28,360
sure to very typical answer but like my
iPad it’s something like that so it’s
265
00:19:28,360 –> 00:19:32,830
the ipad a board game and a boom box or
something for radio
266
00:19:32,830 –> 00:19:37,750
you know what’s funny is the ipad can do
all of that and be an ipad you know
267
00:19:37,750 –> 00:19:42,970
you’re exactly right so maybe that’s
really not the three best he said maybe
268
00:19:42,970 –> 00:19:47,620
you know you know what maybe a crank
flashlight so that I have light at night
269
00:19:47,620 –> 00:19:49,30
that would be kind of nice
270
00:19:49,30 –> 00:19:54,340
you said there were your Wilson shackle
it’s cracking on let it die out cranking
271
00:19:54,340 –> 00:19:57,39
on exactly exactly
272
00:19:57,39 –> 00:20:02,590
so do you have any dreams for the future
oh yes of course i would love when I one
273
00:20:02,590 –> 00:20:06,158
of my big dreams right now I would love
for the music the Disney stuff that I’ve
274
00:20:06,159 –> 00:20:10,390
done would love to take that to the next
level like to get it somehow in the
275
00:20:10,390 –> 00:20:14,890
disney parks have it be sold in the
disney parks or maybe do a concert there
276
00:20:14,890 –> 00:20:19,659
that’s a huge dream of mine would love
that and my other team right now is with
277
00:20:19,659 –> 00:20:23,559
my other music because when I’m not
doing the disney music I actually
278
00:20:23,559 –> 00:20:27,580
release my own albums but it’s all
original music so I do a lot of writing
279
00:20:27,580 –> 00:20:33,399
and composing but i would love to do a
soundtrack like and score for either
280
00:20:33,400 –> 00:20:34,630
like it
281
00:20:34,630 –> 00:20:39,159
disney cartoon a video game or like an
independent movie like that’s what I
282
00:20:39,159 –> 00:20:41,620
would love to do next I think it would
be wonderful
283
00:20:41,620 –> 00:20:46,539
I’m a huge gamer so I love video games I
would love to score a video game i think
284
00:20:46,539 –> 00:20:50,110
that would be really cool but yet or to
score like it even a short disney
285
00:20:50,110 –> 00:20:53,830
cartoon would be great or even some kind
of independent movie I just think would
286
00:20:53,830 –> 00:20:58,750
be so fun to do that that’s what that’s
what I’m dreaming up next so so i could
287
00:20:58,750 –> 00:21:04,360
be talking to the next pharrell right
now but you never know right let’s put
288
00:21:04,360 –> 00:21:05,620
it out there
289
00:21:05,620 –> 00:21:07,840
yeah hey you don’t get anything you
don’t
290
00:21:07,840 –> 00:21:12,789
ask exactly that’s the truth isn’t it
yell do you have any last thoughts you’d
291
00:21:12,789 –> 00:21:13,480
like to share
292
00:21:13,480 –> 00:21:17,320
first I want to say thanks for listening
because every time I come on a podcast I
293
00:21:17,320 –> 00:21:22,90
i really enjoy doing them i really enjoy
being part of a disney community I think
294
00:21:22,90 –> 00:21:26,590
it’s great and I really love that the
people that people like my music I mean
295
00:21:26,590 –> 00:21:28,928
that’s it’s all I can ever ask for
296
00:21:28,929 –> 00:21:31,690
so I’m really thankful for that and I
would just say keep going for your
297
00:21:31,690 –> 00:21:35,350
dreams if you have a dream that’s in
your life something you’ve always wanted
298
00:21:35,350 –> 00:21:40,480
to do or always wanted to try no matter
where you are you know it’s and dreams
299
00:21:40,480 –> 00:21:44,890
can happen anywhere anywhere that you’re
at night I just say go for it because we
300
00:21:44,890 –> 00:21:49,630
only live once you know like on this
grand and miraculous spaceship or
301
00:21:49,630 –> 00:21:52,960
shipper you know the beginning of
spaceship earth like we’re only here for
302
00:21:52,960 –> 00:21:58,630
a short period of time so i say go for
it go for the dreams on before before we
303
00:21:58,630 –> 00:22:03,700
wrap up with your plugs I wanted to ask
you about you know how awesome it is to
304
00:22:03,700 –> 00:22:08,380
you to be licensed by Disney or at least
have the I guess what would you say the
305
00:22:08,380 –> 00:22:09,309
rights
306
00:22:09,309 –> 00:22:13,418
excuse me the rights to do it yeah
because you know they can always say now
307
00:22:13,419 –> 00:22:17,860
you know what I mean like a whoever owns
that material course a man i don’t want
308
00:22:17,860 –> 00:22:22,178
to do it now that really probably
wouldn’t happen because they make money
309
00:22:22,179 –> 00:22:27,850
they get some percentages of the songs
and as well but I know how Disney’s very
310
00:22:27,850 –> 00:22:32,529
particular and they’re very they’re very
protective of their product and very
311
00:22:32,529 –> 00:22:35,140
protective of their ownership what they
have
312
00:22:35,140 –> 00:22:39,640
so to get a license what you have to do
is kind of like submit all the songs
313
00:22:39,640 –> 00:22:43,600
this is what I want to do they’ll say
okay but then they they have to see your
314
00:22:43,600 –> 00:22:48,459
album cover to make sure that you’re not
using any disney likeness or imaging any
315
00:22:48,460 –> 00:22:52,90
disney fonts anything like that because
unless they sanction it
316
00:22:52,90 –> 00:22:55,928
they don’t want you to use their imaging
which is I’m which I can understand so
317
00:22:55,929 –> 00:22:59,679
as soon as they and they’ve approved
every album cover that I’ve sent in
318
00:22:59,679 –> 00:23:04,000
which i’m very grateful for you know and
I was like that when I had when I first
319
00:23:04,000 –> 00:23:08,500
piano and pixie dust I was like I wrote
to my guy and I was like is pixie just a
320
00:23:08,500 –> 00:23:13,659
copyrighted disney turn and he said no
it’s not so I was allowed to use piano
321
00:23:13,659 –> 00:23:16,570
and pixie dust you know but they’ve been
really cool
322
00:23:16,570 –> 00:23:20,559
they’ve been really great and they’ve
approved everything I’ve asked for even
323
00:23:20,559 –> 00:23:21,190
the last
324
00:23:21,190 –> 00:23:25,810
album i did the magical moments I wanted
to put Zorro on there and they couldn’t
325
00:23:25,810 –> 00:23:27,460
find the copyright for it
326
00:23:27,460 –> 00:23:30,430
the guys like I know we have it
somewhere he’s like but go ahead and put
327
00:23:30,430 –> 00:23:34,270
it on and if there’s any issues we know
we’ll take it up we can look at it from
328
00:23:34,270 –> 00:23:38,170
a different agency but go ahead and put
it on I said cool cause I really wanted
329
00:23:38,170 –> 00:23:43,60
oro on the album so they’ve been pretty
good i’ve been very happy with them on
330
00:23:43,60 –> 00:23:46,750
the zero song today they still
collecting for that I don’t know because
331
00:23:46,750 –> 00:23:51,940
they couldn’t find it in their system so
it’s either they own it or maybe the
332
00:23:51,940 –> 00:23:57,250
different company co-owned with them i’m
not sure but i mean i don’t know i mean
333
00:23:57,250 –> 00:24:02,320
don’t they release the zorro shows on
dvds and stuff i thought i don’t know i
334
00:24:02,320 –> 00:24:07,750
think my I think they do because my dad
has a DVD and he got my my niece and
335
00:24:07,750 –> 00:24:12,700
nephews hooked on zoro so if a new
generation of kids that are watching 0
336
00:24:12,700 –> 00:24:17,350
but I they must be able to collect
royalties somehow but but yeah it but he
337
00:24:17,350 –> 00:24:20,800
was real cool he’s like yeah just put it
on and we’ll deal with it if there’s an
338
00:24:20,800 –> 00:24:23,710
issue but he’s like I don’t think there
will be an issue
339
00:24:23,710 –> 00:24:27,640
