Kirsty is originally from Scotland, but resides in England with her husband and 2 children which she home schools. She reignited her love of travel over 7 years ago when she took her kids to the Disney Pixar’s Cars.
Kirsty started doing a lot of writing, to get her thoughts straight. Figuring out things like what they would do, how they would afford it. Her family didn’t have a lot of money so she had to come up with ways around money being a limiting factor. So, originally she convinced herself that instead of traveling the world, they could travel around England and that would be enough. After talking to some friends, she decided she could conquer her fears of traveling with her kids and buy a camper van.
Dealing with a lot of fear of failure, Kirsty, dug in deep and told lots of people of her plans to travel around Europe. This helped her by pushing herself to do something that she didn’t think she would be able to do.
In 2012, her and her husband saved up as much money as they could and began selling all of their possessions. Kirsty’s husband had to quit his job of driving a truck to make this dream of driving a van across Europe a reality. For the last two months before they departed on their trip, they lived in the van in Kirsty’s parents’ driveway.
Kirsty, of Untrapped Life, loves learning about different cultures, and is looking forward to going to Podcast Movement in Dallas, Texas, August 16 and 17th to be a panelist!
I recommend everyone go and check out Podcast Movement even if you are only a little bit interested in Podcasting! I also recommend checking out Kirstie’s Untrapped Life to help get yourself in a better state of mind for traveling with kids.

welcome to show Kirsty back
8
00:00:36,750 –> 00:00:39,839
Kirsty Kirsty yeah I piano
9
00:00:39,839 –> 00:00:43,50
let’s get all right yeah you got it
right thanks for having me on the show
10
00:00:43,829 –> 00:00:47,370
not a problem thank you for coming on
little we get started with some
11
00:00:47,370 –> 00:00:50,940
background about yourself as you can
probably tell from my accent I’m from
12
00:00:50,940 –> 00:00:57,30
the UK grew up in Scotland’s have 2k
that i live in england and like you said
13
00:00:57,30 –> 00:00:58,619
I I love to travel
14
00:00:58,619 –> 00:01:03,390
I’ve always loved to travel and and last
year that the big thing that happened in
15
00:01:03,390 –> 00:01:09,930
our life was we set off on an adventure
meet my failed my husband and my two
16
00:01:09,930 –> 00:01:15,000
kids and gave up work gave up house give
up all sorts of stuff and traveled for
17
00:01:15,000 –> 00:01:20,100
six months with them around Europe so
yeah my kids are home-schooled so it was
18
00:01:20,100 –> 00:01:24,390
kind of really easy for us to decide to
go off and do a big trip and we thought
19
00:01:24,390 –> 00:01:28,320
it would be a really great idea to have
a bit of an extension into their
20
00:01:28,320 –> 00:01:32,580
education that we really really fun and
we actually kind of wanted to do that
21
00:01:32,580 –> 00:01:36,000
saying for ever since
22
00:01:36,000 –> 00:01:39,600
so I think probably going back about
seven years now we really wanted to do
23
00:01:39,600 –> 00:01:44,158
my husband hasn’t got a hugely well-paid
job and I’ve always stayed at home so
24
00:01:44,159 –> 00:01:49,409
why is it always felt like it’s
something that was way out of our reach
25
00:01:49,409 –> 00:01:53,549
if you know i mean it it was kind of
stuff that other people did and I had
26
00:01:53,549 –> 00:01:58,380
this huge dream to go and do that quite
a few years ago and we tried to stop get
27
00:01:58,380 –> 00:02:02,9
some money together and do that kind of
thing and it just completely fell by the
28
00:02:02,10 –> 00:02:05,280
wayside I couldn’t keep up with how much
I thought it was gonna cost
29
00:02:05,940 –> 00:02:09,119
I thought you know i’m going to just
grow up about this i’m gonna just leave
30
00:02:09,119 –> 00:02:14,340
it leave this whole dream and I’ll grow
up and I’ll need to cut trouble just got
31
00:02:14,340 –> 00:02:19,319
holidays and I’ll be fine but dreams
heading to do I found you know if
32
00:02:19,319 –> 00:02:23,280
they’re from something that I really is
really important you kind of don’t go
33
00:02:23,280 –> 00:02:28,620
away a couple years ago a friend bars
did a bit of an adventure they didn’t
34
00:02:28,620 –> 00:02:32,310
quite travel but they gave up their
house they got can plan and we went
35
00:02:32,310 –> 00:02:36,900
around the UK and helped on farms for a
year and i was i just looked at them
36
00:02:36,900 –> 00:02:38,20
about what you’ve got
37
00:02:38,20 –> 00:02:41,740
you can do it and you know that is a
huge adventure even though you’ve not
38
00:02:41,740 –> 00:02:46,30
left the UK that’s a huge adventure you
know if you guys get you know I would
39
00:02:46,30 –> 00:02:49,810
just love to be able to do that you know
in our kids were going that way i’m not
40
00:02:49,810 –> 00:02:51,190
i’m not gonna do it now
41
00:02:51,190 –> 00:02:56,230
never ever gonna do it at all the kids
will be grown-up it were too old
42
00:02:56,230 –> 00:03:01,000
it won’t work and so in 2012 we still
made the decision said right that’s it
43
00:03:01,570 –> 00:03:07,000
all hands on deck we’re gonna save us as
madly as we can and it was still going
44
00:03:07,000 –> 00:03:10,690
to be this really really cheap trip so
we didn’t have the money to put into do
45
00:03:10,690 –> 00:03:15,10
something crazy but I I kind of changed
it from one thing all the way around the
46
00:03:15,10 –> 00:03:19,390
world to just doing an adventure with my
kids so we saved us as much as we could
47
00:03:19,390 –> 00:03:25,720
we bought a really really all campervan
Gloria whom was quite old-fashioned and
48
00:03:25,720 –> 00:03:30,370
very retro hood and a year after we
decided we’re gonna do we have a week
49
00:03:30,370 –> 00:03:35,920
off we went over to France since been a
few couple of months in France then over
50
00:03:35,920 –> 00:03:41,170
to Germany and then back over through
Belgium Holland and then we traveled
51
00:03:41,170 –> 00:03:45,489
around the UK as well and then we finish
so we finished look at my last year and
52
00:03:45,490 –> 00:03:48,730
now i’m planning to go away again
because i can’t quite cooked without
53
00:03:48,730 –> 00:03:50,79
trouble
54
00:03:50,80 –> 00:03:53,800
wow ok so before we get into the next
question how did your husband deal with
55
00:03:53,800 –> 00:03:59,620
not working at his job and it’s funny
he’s that he’s a truck driver so
56
00:03:59,620 –> 00:04:03,130
actually he didn’t get time off because
he just drove the campervan reconcile
57
00:04:03,130 –> 00:04:08,890
that but now I’m but now he really just
he just enjoyed not having to work all
58
00:04:08,890 –> 00:04:13,420
the time he’s walked since he left
school at age 16 and it was just a
59
00:04:13,420 –> 00:04:18,279
really nice long break room we didn’t
worry about that because you know i’m
60
00:04:18,279 –> 00:04:22,330
used to spending all the time of the
kids I’m with them all the time but he’s
61
00:04:22,330 –> 00:04:27,10
not so we did kind of one wonder whether
that would be you know maybe something
62
00:04:27,10 –> 00:04:31,120
that would get it stressy about I mean
we did have our bad days I would also to
63
00:04:31,120 –> 00:04:35,20
each other because that’s kind of how we
are program but yeah he didn’t really
64
00:04:35,20 –> 00:04:36,70
find that you loved it
65
00:04:36,70 –> 00:04:39,190
well I mean like he just didn’t work
like he just took a little you did he
66
00:04:39,190 –> 00:04:42,10
quit his job or duty alright take off
67
00:04:42,10 –> 00:04:46,840
yeah after he quit his job like that his
truck driver so he managed to get
68
00:04:46,840 –> 00:04:50,799
himself enough experience that it would
have been okay to walk in not walk into
69
00:04:50,800 –> 00:04:51,580
a job again
70
00:04:51,580 –> 00:04:55,180
it would probably be quite tricky but he
had the experience that he would still
71
00:04:55,180 –> 00:04:58,389
be in demand when we got back and we
just kind of thought well we’ll see how
72
00:04:58,389 –> 00:05:02,800
it goes and actually what he managed to
do is he he went back to his old job so
73
00:05:02,800 –> 00:05:05,560
it was I was alright but that wasn’t
what we planned at the beginning
74
00:05:05,560 –> 00:05:11,710
oh wow did you maintain a house as at
that time or no no see everybody that I
75
00:05:11,710 –> 00:05:15,99
spoke to had ever done all these kind of
things before all things have houses
76
00:05:15,99 –> 00:05:18,219
that the red to all the time and we were
like well we don’t have that we don’t
77
00:05:18,219 –> 00:05:22,810
want a house we rent ourselves so now we
just gave it all up put what little
78
00:05:22,810 –> 00:05:25,870
things that we have left in storage at
my mom and dad’s house and then just
79
00:05:25,870 –> 00:05:31,419
went and decided to just see where we
ended up at the end of it wow wow thats
80
00:05:31,419 –> 00:05:38,349
I don’t know anybody else that would do
that that’s awesome i could put you in
81
00:05:38,349 –> 00:05:45,969
touch with quite a lot of people or
buttocks like maybe ya know it it got to
82
00:05:45,969 –> 00:05:49,659
the point that we just thought if we try
and keep everything together or we try
83
00:05:49,659 –> 00:05:53,438
and just have a holiday here there and
just do something big like that but we
84
00:05:53,439 –> 00:05:55,90
can have kept the house anyway
85
00:05:55,90 –> 00:05:58,690
that would have been too much money it
just felt like you just got to take a
86
00:05:58,690 –> 00:06:03,580
risk and just see where it goes and I
kind of think now that it’s just you
87
00:06:03,580 –> 00:06:07,750
know that’s just how life is let’s just
jump into it and give it a go and if it
88
00:06:07,750 –> 00:06:10,389
doesn’t work out and that’s great but at
least we’re not going to sit in our
89
00:06:10,389 –> 00:06:14,409
rocket josé when were older and say
well I wish I’d tried it and I had so
90
00:06:14,409 –> 00:06:18,69
many years when I think how i wish i
wish i had done it when I said I’m and
91
00:06:18,69 –> 00:06:21,789
time was taking away with it with the
kids getting older so we just have to do
92
00:06:21,789 –> 00:06:24,550
it sounds crazy but I know
93
00:06:24,550 –> 00:06:28,60
well it’s not crazy because you did it
so it worked
94
00:06:28,60 –> 00:06:32,680
yeah what really well we we loved it i
mean i have not loved coming back but I
95
00:06:32,680 –> 00:06:36,879
mean I why I really wish is that I’d had
some sort of income in place when we
96
00:06:36,879 –> 00:06:40,180
were away so we could have kept going
for a bit longer so that we could have
97
00:06:40,180 –> 00:06:43,960
maybe settle down somewhere different
that would be nicer but at the time when
98
00:06:43,960 –> 00:06:49,210
it when we were walking out it was just
let’s just do something and I kind of
99
00:06:49,210 –> 00:06:53,20
needed as well to be able to believe I
could do something I’ve had spent so
100
00:06:53,20 –> 00:06:57,128
many years having ideas and having
dreams and I never quite getting there
101
00:06:57,129 –> 00:07:00,250
and I was starting to feel a bit that I
wasn’t good enough
102
00:07:00,849 –> 00:07:04,300
I’m just not this type of person that
ever get your dreams so I just needed
103
00:07:04,300 –> 00:07:05,200
something I need
104
00:07:05,200 –> 00:07:10,30
little win and that just got it straight
away and now you know the world’s opened
105
00:07:10,30 –> 00:07:14,140
up and we call these other ideas that’s
coming on and and knowing that I can
106
00:07:14,140 –> 00:07:18,580
just jump in you know nothing nothing
Bad’s gonna happen read the whole world
107
00:07:18,580 –> 00:07:23,20
80s good-looker something get all happy
and they’ll be fine
108
00:07:23,20 –> 00:07:29,349
so what would you say traveling means to
you traveling to me is I love to see
109
00:07:29,350 –> 00:07:35,740
different cultures so for me just
learning about you know the different
110
00:07:35,740 –> 00:07:40,60
foods and different people and different
customs and things like that and we were
111
00:07:40,60 –> 00:07:45,490
saying earlier before the coal that you
know i was saying about how I i love the
112
00:07:45,490 –> 00:07:50,170
difference between Americans and the
British and I feel like I connect so
113
00:07:50,170 –> 00:07:55,180
much with you guys but the other but
then sometimes I just get the shock to
114
00:07:55,180 –> 00:08:00,160
my system like I don’t know what you’re
talking about and I love that kind of
115
00:08:00,160 –> 00:08:04,300
thing with travel where you just broaden
your mind so much that was really really
116
00:08:04,300 –> 00:08:08,950
cliche to me that’s what I love about it
and then just learning about history of
117
00:08:08,950 –> 00:08:13,330
places and and I quite like so fitting
in bitter the puzzle in my head so we
118
00:08:13,330 –> 00:08:16,510
saw that we did a lot of stuff about
World War two when we were over there
119
00:08:16,510 –> 00:08:20,620
because my son’s really really
interested in that kind of stuff so I
120
00:08:20,620 –> 00:08:24,790
quite like that such a huge topic so i
quite like to be able to fit all of my
121
00:08:24,790 –> 00:08:27,940
head and learn about it it’s just
constant learning i love that
122
00:08:27,940 –> 00:08:32,770
so what would you say inspires you my
kids inspire me my husband inspires me
123
00:08:32,770 –> 00:08:33,460
just
124
00:08:33,460 –> 00:08:37,930
well their faith in me inspires me I
think what inspires me to reach for
125
00:08:37,929 –> 00:08:43,30
things and keep going as well it’s just
that feeling that this is not only cats
126
00:08:43,30 –> 00:08:47,20
at this you know when you get one shot
at life and let’s just make it happen so
127
00:08:47,20 –> 00:08:50,890
that kind of thing inspires me to just
give everything ago and it’s taking me a
128
00:08:50,890 –> 00:08:56,590
long time to get this heart but i’d say
just that finite life thing I think so
129
00:08:56,590 –> 00:09:00,310
how did you dream of traveling come
about so we basically i was i was
130
00:09:00,310 –> 00:09:01,420
hitting at you earlier
131
00:09:01,420 –> 00:09:04,990
so we’re talking a little bit but
Tiffany stuff so when my kids were they
132
00:09:04,990 –> 00:09:09,400
must have been and now five and six some
things are quite a long time ago now
133
00:09:09,400 –> 00:09:14,110
about actually a good eight years ago I
took them to see cars at the cinema
134
00:09:14,110 –> 00:09:18,700
Disney Cars film and i SAT and watched
it and and if anybody who
135
00:09:18,700 –> 00:09:21,880
just think that knows the film they’ll
know it’s all about old route 66
136
00:09:21,880 –> 00:09:27,10
all-america and I was just like I need
to take something I need to save them
137
00:09:27,10 –> 00:09:31,930
and I’d always traveled actually before
I had kids so the travel bug was in me
138
00:09:31,930 –> 00:09:37,750
anyway but we’ve never really done much
a family and I just thought wouldn’t it
139
00:09:37,750 –> 00:09:40,480
be fantastic wouldn’t be great if we
could take them to America we can do
140
00:09:40,480 –> 00:09:45,700
this big tray but it was that film that
just you know I remember to this day
141
00:09:45,700 –> 00:09:49,840
walking out the cinemark think i need to
do this I need to go there and I need to
142
00:09:49,840 –> 00:09:51,910
take my kids there and we need to see
this
143
00:09:51,910 –> 00:09:55,780
so yeah that was those probably the
first thing that started that that
144
00:09:55,780 –> 00:10:00,850
moment of taking my children off to do
something crazy and was probably that
145
00:10:00,850 –> 00:10:03,670
although it did take quite a long time
after that
146
00:10:03,670 –> 00:10:06,670
so how was it received by your family
members
147
00:10:06,670 –> 00:10:11,79
I guess your immediate family and then
also your parents or his parents and
148
00:10:11,80 –> 00:10:15,490
every just everybody in general how was
that received like hey he’s gonna quit
149
00:10:15,490 –> 00:10:20,110
his job just gonna drive around and you
said a gloria i assume that means like
150
00:10:20,110 –> 00:10:20,950
an RV
151
00:10:20,950 –> 00:10:23,920
yeah yeah like an obvious they’re not
quite because what you have over there
152
00:10:23,920 –> 00:10:26,949
yeah this is because she’s that tiny
compared to what you have
153
00:10:26,950 –> 00:10:30,370
so yeah we kind of spoke about these
something things with people and they’re
154
00:10:30,370 –> 00:10:34,990
all a bit like yeah whatever you know
we’ll see what happens and i like that
155
00:10:34,990 –> 00:10:39,220
was quite a while ago but eight years
ago and then it never happened
156
00:10:39,220 –> 00:10:43,390
so you know I think a lot of the time
they kind of just stop it won’t happen
157
00:10:43,390 –> 00:10:46,750
it won’t happen until you know that
moment where you kind of give up your
158
00:10:46,750 –> 00:10:48,400
job and I’m doing it now
159
00:10:48,400 –> 00:10:51,670
I think my parents are generally really
good about it
160
00:10:51,670 –> 00:10:54,699
I think they’re quite used to me being a
bit crazy huh
161
00:10:55,240 –> 00:10:58,450
so they’re they’re quite finally they’re
really good and don’t question anything
162
00:10:58,450 –> 00:11:03,610
about what all my my choices and my
father-in-law he was think he’s a bit
163
00:11:03,610 –> 00:11:07,510
more worried about it especially because
we want to go away again he kind of
164
00:11:07,510 –> 00:11:10,630
thinks that we should stay here and just
a little trips out here there and
165
00:11:10,630 –> 00:11:13,870
everywhere but I kind of know that
doesn’t work it’s not the same kind of
166
00:11:13,870 –> 00:11:17,920
traveling this is going somewhere a bit
more long term anyway so he’s not quite
167
00:11:17,920 –> 00:11:22,120
as up with its what is what my parents
are but they’re all right on my
168
00:11:22,120 –> 00:11:25,510
husband’s just you know he’s just he
just loved the idea of not having to go
169
00:11:25,510 –> 00:11:26,800
to work for huh
170
00:11:26,800 –> 00:11:30,250
so what steps did you take to get
started when we decided to write this
171
00:11:30,250 –> 00:11:32,350
day so this is going back to the
beginning
172
00:11:32,350 –> 00:11:37,660
2012 i started just write stuff down all
the time i got myself a little bit of a
173
00:11:37,660 –> 00:11:41,50
blog that I just kept private
straightaway and i just wrote down
174
00:11:41,50 –> 00:11:45,640
everything that I was thinking about and
then I got myself like a word document
175
00:11:45,640 –> 00:11:48,550
on my computer that i would write the
things I feel like I’m never going to
176
00:11:48,550 –> 00:11:53,349
shore ppl this bit but I would just
write and write and get myself in my
177
00:11:53,350 –> 00:11:56,620
head that I think I can do this and I
thought about you know I’d ask myself
178
00:11:56,620 –> 00:12:00,100
questions right happy and what we’re
gonna do I’m gonna forward that how much
179
00:12:00,100 –> 00:12:04,690
is it gonna cost us how can we do all
this and if I just talked to myself hit
180
00:12:04,690 –> 00:12:08,980
you know in writing form and that was
the first start to me and then I could
181
00:12:08,980 –> 00:12:10,600
start forming plans
182
00:12:10,600 –> 00:12:14,500
I talk to myself enough about it that I
could define what it was that I really
183
00:12:14,500 –> 00:12:19,600
wanted to do so before I always really
wanted to go to really exotic places and
184
00:12:19,600 –> 00:12:23,920
I really wanted to go to Thailand and
America and new zealand and all these
185
00:12:23,920 –> 00:12:28,180
places so I knew that that wouldn’t be
part of it this time so I was like well
186
00:12:28,180 –> 00:12:32,410
what can we do that would just be enough
that I feel happy that we have this
187
00:12:32,410 –> 00:12:35,560
great adventure so then I kind of
decided what we’ll just go around the UK
188
00:12:35,560 –> 00:12:39,640
because there’s enough in the UK that we
could just still really enjoy yourselves
189
00:12:40,210 –> 00:12:44,620
we know we know the country’s i’m going
to cost us a huge mass of money it will
190
00:12:44,620 –> 00:12:47,290
it be fine and it would still be an
invention that would be great
191
00:12:47,290 –> 00:12:51,579
so that’s kind of how i started off and
then I just got I just had to get really
192
00:12:51,580 –> 00:12:55,600
brave and just started to tell people I
told their friends that had done the
193
00:12:55,600 –> 00:13:00,700
similar adventure before and I hated
that because I knew had said so many
194
00:13:00,700 –> 00:13:02,20
times before
195
00:13:02,20 –> 00:13:04,600
oh we’re gonna go travelling we’re gonna
go and do this we’re gonna go on
196
00:13:04,600 –> 00:13:08,620
whatever it is you know whatever crazy
idea of being in my head before I knew
197
00:13:08,620 –> 00:13:11,440
that every single time it never happened
198
00:13:11,440 –> 00:13:14,890
so I really hated having to do that I
kind of thought what is this gonna be
199
00:13:14,890 –> 00:13:19,810
the same thing again is it gonna be that
i’m going to fail again I was really
200
00:13:19,810 –> 00:13:23,170
really scared but I thought well if I
don’t tell anybody it definitely won’t
201
00:13:23,170 –> 00:13:28,510
happen because it i kinda no one like I
get bored really easily slide I think if
202
00:13:28,510 –> 00:13:32,410
it’s if it’s too much hard work out a
thing are we can’t do this and and then
203
00:13:32,410 –> 00:13:35,680
I believe it but I’ve got to tell
everybody so then so that’s what we did
204
00:13:35,680 –> 00:13:39,579
I think it was about a year before our
date that we decided we’re gonna wait go
205
00:13:39,580 –> 00:13:43,630
away I I told everybody I thought right
that’s not going to tell anybody and
206
00:13:43,630 –> 00:13:45,699
then once that happens and because we
207
00:13:45,699 –> 00:13:49,89
didn’t I come up with a date was just
kind of thinking everything else and I’m
208
00:13:49,89 –> 00:13:53,49
thinking right when we really need to
sell everything we need really need to
209
00:13:53,49 –> 00:13:57,639
save lots of money and i got myself a
bit over an extra job doing extra things
210
00:13:57,639 –> 00:14:01,749
and everything just went in the pot and
we saved up so what roblox did you hit
211
00:14:01,749 –> 00:14:06,160
along the way the financial stuff it
always was always going to be a big
212
00:14:06,160 –> 00:14:10,209
thing for us I mean we like like except
for you know we don’t come from a rich
213
00:14:10,209 –> 00:14:13,959
family we don’t have a house that’s our
own everything that we were going to do
214
00:14:13,959 –> 00:14:18,248
this dream or we have to pay for
ourselves we just have to save up the
215
00:14:18,249 –> 00:14:20,470
money somehow and pay for ourselves
216
00:14:20,470 –> 00:14:23,829
it just happened to be a really good
year for us actually that my husband got
217
00:14:23,829 –> 00:14:27,669
a better job and and so he was only a
little bit more than I money to get a
218
00:14:27,669 –> 00:14:31,119
little bit more money as well so it goes
it worked out really well for us but
219
00:14:31,119 –> 00:14:34,59
even then it’s still like well you know
this is really not a lot of money i
220
00:14:34,59 –> 00:14:39,999
think we had that we bought our van
which was about 45 thousand pounds i
221
00:14:39,999 –> 00:14:44,589
think i don’t have no idea what that
isn’t metal conductors and then I think
222
00:14:44,589 –> 00:14:48,249
all we had saved up after that was still
over the bad guys and power months it
223
00:14:48,249 –> 00:14:52,749
was like really really really budget
budget travel and i thought i’m not sure
224
00:14:52,749 –> 00:14:58,389
we can do this it’s gonna be really hard
and the financial what’s up with hard to
225
00:14:58,389 –> 00:15:02,799
get through and the other thing was just
believe in myself I feel like I’d failed
226
00:15:02,799 –> 00:15:07,689
so many times you know I just dream all
the time I have all these great ideas of
227
00:15:07,689 –> 00:15:11,319
things that we can do and wouldn’t this
be a great idea to do that and I’d
228
00:15:11,319 –> 00:15:16,238
failed so many times doing it but I just
wasn’t sure that this time it would work
229
00:15:16,779 –> 00:15:20,470
I just was waiting for the day that
something would happen and i’m gonna
230
00:15:20,470 –> 00:15:23,679
have to say no we can’t do that anymore
and you know every time we talk to our
231
00:15:23,679 –> 00:15:26,499
friends about it and they said well
how’s it all going how’s it going how’s
232
00:15:26,499 –> 00:15:30,39
it getting rid of everything going you
know about yeah it’s going really great
233
00:15:30,39 –> 00:15:33,519
I’m just really worried that I’m still
not going to do it you know that was my
234
00:15:33,519 –> 00:15:38,829
worry i just had more faith in myself
that I was gonna do so i think yeah just
235
00:15:38,829 –> 00:15:43,959
believe in myself was a big thing and
then yeah financial but I think
236
00:15:43,959 –> 00:15:48,729
financial comes into lots of things
doesn’t have it definitely does i mean
237
00:15:48,730 –> 00:15:52,720
you can’t have already explained how you
overcame those aspects
238
00:15:52,720 –> 00:15:57,69
yeah I believe in myself I don’t even
know how I overcame that it was just a
239
00:15:57,69 –> 00:15:59,459
case of just blindly going through
240
00:15:59,459 –> 00:16:03,660
and keeping up with it and it was just
that day that we saw handed are not at
241
00:16:03,660 –> 00:16:07,110
work and the day that we hadn’t noticed
at the house that we weren’t going to
242
00:16:07,110 –> 00:16:12,449
live there anymore it’s just a deep
breath and just go for it and I don’t
243
00:16:12,449 –> 00:16:18,149
even know I’m still thought will not go
even when because we thought we spend a
244
00:16:18,149 –> 00:16:23,249
couple of months on my mom and dad’s
driveway on in our camper and RV just to
245
00:16:23,249 –> 00:16:27,929
save up that last little bit so that’s
how we did like the last little chunk of
246
00:16:27,929 –> 00:16:32,399
money came in and even and even then so
we have some mechanical problems that
247
00:16:32,399 –> 00:16:35,670
have gone wrong with us all this is that
you know this we’re not gonna be able to
248
00:16:35,670 –> 00:16:40,79
do it all this kind of stuff but yeah I
think just popping what I got through
249
00:16:40,79 –> 00:16:43,679
that so is there any part of your dream
that haven’t quite worked out yet part
250
00:16:43,679 –> 00:16:48,329
of our doing last year so that the whole
travel it didn’t you know it didn’t go
251
00:16:48,329 –> 00:16:53,609
quite to plan I am I kind of don’t
mention it too much on my own my own
252
00:16:53,610 –> 00:16:59,309
track life site that I have but out that
if you read my own travel blog site and
253
00:16:59,309 –> 00:17:03,269
I kind of go into a little bit of things
changed at home in our in our home life
254
00:17:03,269 –> 00:17:08,69
so I’m all I stop a store at my mom and
dad’s house and then they moved house
255
00:17:08,69 –> 00:17:12,359
while we were away and they all got a
bit crazy and you know it didn’t all
256
00:17:12,359 –> 00:17:16,139
work out and then it moved things around
and that meant that we have to come home
257
00:17:16,140 –> 00:17:19,649
a bit early but that didn’t work out
very well I feel like we achieved our
258
00:17:19,648 –> 00:17:24,148
dream but it didn’t it didn’t and i
still didn’t manage to do some of the
259
00:17:24,148 –> 00:17:27,448
stuff that I wanted if you know I mean
so so there’s still quite a few bits
260
00:17:27,449 –> 00:17:31,950
that i really would like to do more but
we not bad i’m still really pride
261
00:17:31,950 –> 00:17:36,179
ourselves on having done it so i try not
to beat myself up too much better
262
00:17:36,179 –> 00:17:41,279
yeah i mean you you did what a lot of
people can’t and wouldn’t do that for
263
00:17:41,279 –> 00:17:45,390
one reason or another so I I don’t think
there’s any reason to be beating
264
00:17:45,390 –> 00:17:49,679
yourself up over it and why did for a
little bit when we came home back over
265
00:17:49,679 –> 00:17:57,149
that go over it so could you share
favorite memory this whole crazy idea
266
00:17:57,149 –> 00:18:02,520
was mine and my family are brilliantly
just go along with anything that I think
267
00:18:02,520 –> 00:18:05,700
they’re really really like it really
stupid or it might be really really i
268
00:18:05,700 –> 00:18:11,399
don’t know but home but I remember
waking up the day that we left and just
269
00:18:11,399 –> 00:18:13,260
being so scared
270
00:18:13,260 –> 00:18:18,180
I’m shaking I don’t know what I was
doing was like I’d I you know I was so
271
00:18:18,180 –> 00:18:23,40
stressed i looked at my husband he was
smiling he was driving and just really
272
00:18:23,40 –> 00:18:27,420
really happy the kids were really happy
in the back of the band and I was just
273
00:18:27,420 –> 00:18:33,510
absolutely petrified and I just remember
that so much because I don’t know just
274
00:18:33,510 –> 00:18:38,850
because they had such faith in me to do
it and the whole idea and I’m so I
275
00:18:38,850 –> 00:18:42,419
remember that it’s not really favorite
memory but it’s something that would
276
00:18:42,420 –> 00:18:48,270
really be done i just it felt like it
was just such a relief maybe because I’d
277
00:18:48,270 –> 00:18:53,310
had that huge I can’t do this thing
anymore you know I mean but them so
278
00:18:53,310 –> 00:18:56,700
they’re not so that was our first date
we traveled all the way down to to do
279
00:18:56,700 –> 00:19:02,70
over to get the ferry over in France and
so it kind of ties into this other base
280
00:19:02,70 –> 00:19:04,500
I’ll add that bit and so is the only
asked for one memory but i’ll give me
281
00:19:04,500 –> 00:19:11,40
too and then the next day so we were sat
waiting to get on the ferry to travel up
282
00:19:11,40 –> 00:19:15,60
into France which was quite like our fan
is so old that we didn’t know whether it
283
00:19:15,60 –> 00:19:16,260
would make it this my heart
284
00:19:16,260 –> 00:19:21,720
we were like really really excited just
to get friends and and somebody knocks
285
00:19:21,720 –> 00:19:25,710
on our window and spoke to us and were
like so we had on the back our website
286
00:19:25,710 –> 00:19:29,130
address for that for our blog that we’re
going to travel with and they had SAT
287
00:19:29,130 –> 00:19:33,960
behind us looking on their phone and
looked at our what we were planning to
288
00:19:33,960 –> 00:19:37,260
do and they came over and supporting us
and all we just seen your website you
289
00:19:37,260 –> 00:19:41,250
know is that she just setting off now
and were like yeah I think that all you
290
00:19:41,250 –> 00:19:45,30
you’re just being such a fab saying I’m
really excited for you and and you will
291
00:19:45,30 –> 00:19:49,440
be SAT and talked to him for ages just
about how you know because he was off to
292
00:19:49,440 –> 00:19:55,500
Italy or something like that so we just
it was such a great memory of people and
293
00:19:55,500 –> 00:19:59,70
it just people be nice and that’s what I
quite like that about travel as well as
294
00:19:59,70 –> 00:20:03,149
just that the people aspect and people
coming in and speaking and connecting
295
00:20:03,150 –> 00:20:07,770
with them as well that was too sorry the
head don’t manage to be sorry
296
00:20:07,770 –> 00:20:12,629
yeah I did too i totally agree i’d i’d
much rather spend time with people then
297
00:20:12,630 –> 00:20:16,620
seeing a bunch of sites personally
298
00:20:16,620 –> 00:20:21,149
yeah i mean i like the sites i do like
sites but yes but there’s the people
299
00:20:21,150 –> 00:20:26,40
that that will be the memory you know we
went to places like point guard in the
300
00:20:26,40 –> 00:20:26,790
cipher
301
00:20:26,790 –> 00:20:30,840
and that’s what you know the big Roman
aqueducts thing but I don’t say that was
302
00:20:30,840 –> 00:20:33,750
my favorite memory even though it’s
something that was really good so I
303
00:20:33,750 –> 00:20:36,990
completely agree with the other people
are what make the memories
304
00:20:37,770 –> 00:20:40,950
definitely so what are your dreams for
the future look like
305
00:20:40,950 –> 00:20:45,240
so we came back and I knew that I would
want to go away again so we come back
306
00:20:45,240 –> 00:20:47,220
for a couple reasons like i said before
it
307
00:20:47,220 –> 00:20:51,810
things kind of we have sourced the fact
that we have stopped the air layer but
308
00:20:51,810 –> 00:20:56,490
also my son is 13 at the moment and he’s
getting a brace done so that kind of
309
00:20:56,490 –> 00:21:01,380
something that we need to be around four
and so we had this idea that I would try
310
00:21:01,380 –> 00:21:04,860
and build myself up a business that we
could take on the road and be a bit more
311
00:21:04,860 –> 00:21:09,270
location independent and then we could
go and travel again when we’re ready
312
00:21:09,270 –> 00:21:14,160
again so that’s the next three is to
build a business which I’m doing right
313
00:21:14,160 –> 00:21:18,810
now and then to travel again we had
planned to go away in talk about 18
314
00:21:18,810 –> 00:21:22,770
months but we kind of brought that a bit
forward because i’m really impatient
315
00:21:22,770 –> 00:21:28,20
from home so we’re actually going to be
back on the road again by august which
316
00:21:28,20 –> 00:21:33,240
is up exciting and scary all at the same
time but hey you know what
317
00:21:33,240 –> 00:21:37,830
in August you’re going to austin texas
right yeah Dallas tell six dollars Texas
318
00:21:37,830 –> 00:21:44,340
ok and you’re going to be a speaker on a
panel i am yeah this is really really
319
00:21:44,340 –> 00:21:50,490
crazy and scary so i started my business
last part of that I am have a podcast
320
00:21:50,490 –> 00:21:55,680
just like so and I talked about very
very similar things that people who have
321
00:21:55,680 –> 00:21:59,130
dreams and reaching for dreams I’m
helping people to get there so my
322
00:21:59,130 –> 00:22:03,000
podcasters he’s not that old it’s only
been going about three months now i
323
00:22:03,000 –> 00:22:07,20
think i made this really really crazy
decision to go all the way over to
324
00:22:07,20 –> 00:22:12,870
America conference after you do and
applied to be a speaker and have been
325
00:22:12,870 –> 00:22:17,939
accepted to be on a panel there so it’s
all quite exciting and I’m very nervous
326
00:22:17,940 –> 00:22:21,900
at the thought but what’s the worst that
can happen hey
327
00:22:21,900 –> 00:22:24,900
exactly exactly
328
00:22:25,500 –> 00:22:29,790
we will see little feet I’ll have to
report back yeah think that happened was
329
00:22:29,790 –> 00:22:36,270
that now it will be like and then we’re
also going to do some notes for some
330
00:22:36,270 –> 00:22:40,120
route 66 so so going back to that car
thing that I was saying about
331
00:22:40,120 –> 00:22:45,909
really want to take the kids to seek the
route 66 and that cars life begging old
332
00:22:45,910 –> 00:22:46,690
America
333
00:22:46,690 –> 00:22:50,680
yeah we’re gonna do that as well and I’m
gonna sneak the CD that we have the car
334
00:22:50,680 –> 00:22:54,760
soundtrack and speak that along with us
because my husband hates it but i will
335
00:22:54,760 –> 00:22:58,629
play it but he will not like me for it
but I plate
336
00:22:59,620 –> 00:23:04,60
yeah I’d love to have you back for a
follow-up show after the conference to
337
00:23:04,60 –> 00:23:05,530
see how you made out
338
00:23:05,530 –> 00:23:09,310
yeah yeah we would be great we could
definitely do that brilliant so is there
339
00:23:09,310 –> 00:23:13,960
any last thoughts you’d like to share my
thoughts people are just girlfriend and
340
00:23:13,960 –> 00:23:19,240
just say yes to things aside i thought
the 2014 was going to be such rubbish
341
00:23:19,240 –> 00:23:22,510
here for me i thought i’m going to build
up this business going to be so you know
342
00:23:22,510 –> 00:23:26,200
i’m not going to be able to travel
anywhere i had such bad thoughts about
343
00:23:26,200 –> 00:23:29,980
it beginning of the year and I just
started saying yes to things so i
344
00:23:29,980 –> 00:23:34,420
decided i was going to build this this
business up and I was gonna I wasn’t
345
00:23:34,420 –> 00:23:37,780
sure it was the right thing to do but
we’re not just gonna go for it just
346
00:23:37,780 –> 00:23:43,30
gonna do it and then a game of things
like being on the podcast as well I hate
347
00:23:43,30 –> 00:23:46,990
speaking to people on foreign I really
really hate like I’m the worst person in
348
00:23:46,990 –> 00:23:50,920
the world for forming up anybody all my
friends are like but you can’t speak to
349
00:23:50,920 –> 00:23:55,270
people on the board however you got
vodka and um and that it was just
350
00:23:55,270 –> 00:23:58,600
another one of those things thinking
right I’ve gotta say yes I’ve got a good
351
00:23:58,600 –> 00:24:03,610
do it and let’s see what happens and it
has opened all these doors and 2014 now
352
00:24:03,610 –> 00:24:07,990
has just changed for me it’s gonna be
completely different I’d no idea would
353
00:24:07,990 –> 00:24:12,340
end up going to America I had no idea
I’d be going to a conference and
354
00:24:12,340 –> 00:24:17,320
speaking to people which i’m trying to
think but and I’m did you just say yes
355
00:24:17,320 –> 00:24:20,710
and see what happens that’s kind of what
i would like to say to people you know
356
00:24:20,710 –> 00:24:25,300
if you if you say yes there really isn’t
a lot of bear they could come from it
357
00:24:25,300 –> 00:24:32,560
you you just have to try and to sit back
and say I can’t do this I can’t that
358
00:24:32,560 –> 00:24:38,860
it’s not possible it’s um it might not
be easy to say yes or to make those
359
00:24:38,860 –> 00:24:44,590
things come true but it definitely makes
for a better story later on and a better
360
00:24:44,590 –> 00:24:46,270
experience overall
361
00:24:46,270 –> 00:24:50,139
yeah but i mean even like today so you
asked me to be on the show
362
00:24:51,110 –> 00:24:54,919
and I could have really gotten wrong i’m
not sure i’m not sure whether i can do
363
00:24:54,920 –> 00:24:59,750
that and any is nerve-racking speaking
to somebody who you’ve never met before
364
00:24:59,750 –> 00:25:03,410
and that’s really is really
nerve-racking as you probably know from
365
00:25:03,410 –> 00:25:07,370
both sides is really nerve-racking but
yeah you just have to say yes you don’t
366
00:25:07,370 –> 00:25:10,639
know and and asked happened we had a
really really great conversation I’m
367
00:25:10,640 –> 00:25:15,440
hoping that you know we’ll stay friends
online and he’s just it might not be a
368
00:25:15,440 –> 00:25:19,670
big thing but you never know where these
kind of things might take you or or just
369
00:25:19,670 –> 00:25:24,740
anything in the whole world is still
connected now at 8i it just blows my
370
00:25:24,740 –> 00:25:29,150
mind sometimes to think of how we can be
connected to other you’re somebody down
371
00:25:29,150 –> 00:25:32,960
the line he’s going to completely change
your life so I yet just what’s the worst
372
00:25:32,960 –> 00:25:37,910
that can happen is given much is my
model thinking I I definitely I
373
00:25:37,910 –> 00:25:41,900
definitely finally saying in touch and
anything you need just let me know I
374
00:25:41,900 –> 00:25:45,650
excellent yeah and we’ll get your my
shows up all that would be awesome thank
375
00:25:45,650 –> 00:25:46,340
you
376
00:25:46,340 –> 00:25:50,659
yeah well so that when I’m so let’s
let’s now you mention your show let’s do
377
00:25:50,660 –> 00:25:54,49
all your plugs your facebooks your
Twitter’s your website
378
00:25:54,49 –> 00:25:59,330
ok so at the moment i’m mostly at
contract life.com and that when the
379
00:25:59,330 –> 00:26:02,600
podcast on track life everything’s
contract life at the moment so he
380
00:26:02,600 –> 00:26:06,320
checked anywhere that will you will find
that if you really want I don’t really
381
00:26:06,320 –> 00:26:12,620
interested in our travel diary that we
had you can find that Bart’s go
382
00:26:12,620 –> 00:26:16,909
adventuring dot-com but i have written
on in that for a little while so it’s a
383
00:26:16,910 –> 00:26:19,669
bit and we have just come back from
Normandy and I haven’t read anything
384
00:26:19,669 –> 00:26:23,690
about what i need to need to update it
for more pictures and that’s more so you
385
00:26:23,690 –> 00:26:27,140
