Her weight loss journey is filled with many road blocks. Diane’s biggest inspiration as come from a combination of family, friends, her daughter and the show The Biggest Loser! Being a single mother of a three year old has been tough, but very rewarding for Diane.

Diane’s sister pushed her to start going to the gym four years ago, and continued to push her harder on the treadmill. Running started to take over Diane’s life, and sister was able to convince her to sign up for her first half marathon! While training she has done two 5ks and has had much success doing so.

Diane was originally nervous running outdoors, missing the comforts of the indoor treadmill experience. But now she is growing more accustomed to running out doors, and enjoying her new lifestyle! Diane has also had to deal with the mental aspect of working out in front of others. Through all of that, she has managed to stay focused on the positive things instead of the negative which has helped push her forward on the path of her weight loss journey.

I grew up with Diane, she sat behind me in all of my home room classes from seventh grade till graduation. I am so proud of her to make this transformation for herself. I also want to say that I am very happy that it has allowed us to reconnect after nearly 10 years of not seeing each other. It is great to see how far she has come on her weight loss journey! Keep up the great work Diane!

I can’t say enough great things about how this show has opened doors for me to communicate with people and reconnect with people from my past. As always, thank you all for the support!

dreamers shared their stories to inspire

2
00:00:05,40 –> 00:00:06,359

now join host Joe Pardo as he interviews
a dreamer who is living their dreams

4
00:00:18,580 –> 00:00:21,580
yeah

5
00:00:23,820 –> 00:00:28,920
welcome to the dreamers podcast I’m your
host Joe Pardo and today I’m

6
00:00:28,920 –> 00:00:33,600
interviewing Diane park who is living
her dream by getting stronger and

7
00:00:33,600 –> 00:00:34,470
healthier

8
00:00:34,470 –> 00:00:37,949
welcome to the show Diane thanks for
having me Joe thanks for being here in

9
00:00:37,950 –> 00:00:41,970
the studio while we get started by
giving some background about yourself

10
00:00:42,600 –> 00:00:50,580
sure I am 20 I’m a single mom i recently
lost 200 pounds you speak 220 pounds and

11
00:00:50,580 –> 00:00:56,699
now i’m currently down to 220 I work out
a lot and probably focus on what i do be

12
00:00:56,700 –> 00:00:58,200
healthier and stronger

13
00:00:58,200 –> 00:01:01,289
there’s an awful lot of weight to lose
how long did it take you to lose a lot

14
00:01:01,289 –> 00:01:05,789
we probably about four years while 70
pounds in the first year i tried and had

15
00:01:05,789 –> 00:01:11,759
a few snags over the next few years I
lost the remaining 30 still have a few

16
00:01:11,759 –> 00:01:14,39
more pounds to go but I’m working on it

17
00:01:14,39 –> 00:01:18,360
it’s always a work in progress only so
what would you say inspires you

18
00:01:18,360 –> 00:01:21,840
I’m let’s a little different things
inspire me when I first started the

19
00:01:21,840 –> 00:01:25,560
Biggest Loser the TV show that was a
really big inspiration to watch like

20
00:01:25,560 –> 00:01:30,60
just about every episode seeing all the
people lose weight so why can’t I do

21
00:01:30,60 –> 00:01:34,799
that I used to watch this show for
motivation and the jillian michaels and

22
00:01:34,799 –> 00:01:39,420
Bob Harper they always pushed me through
my heart x now recently my four-year-old

23
00:01:39,420 –> 00:01:41,729
daughter she inspires me she helps a lot

24
00:01:41,729 –> 00:01:46,229
keeps me running do you think that she
understands the struggle that you went

25
00:01:46,229 –> 00:01:46,798
through

26
00:01:46,799 –> 00:01:52,860
ah no I don’t really think she never
really saw me at my heaviest so she

27
00:01:52,860 –> 00:01:55,979
doesn’t I don’t think she really
understands what I go through that she

28
00:01:55,979 –> 00:02:00,299
sees that I try so how does your dream
come about I basically just got tired of

29
00:02:00,299 –> 00:02:05,909
being overweight and being unhappy with
myself that I started making a change in

30
00:02:05,909 –> 00:02:11,549
my sister was a big help in that she got
me signed up with the gym and cheese to

31
00:02:11,549 –> 00:02:15,840
go with me all the time and should push
me when I was on the treadmill and told

32
00:02:15,840 –> 00:02:20,400
me when I can go harder and she helped
me a lot and my family’s a baked big

33
00:02:20,400 –> 00:02:25,650
help and they’re always very supportive
of what I do of my decisions so you have

34
00:02:25,650 –> 00:02:28,920
already answered the question of how
your dream was received by your family

35
00:02:28,920 –> 00:02:32,608
was there any pushback at all the only
push back against would be

36
00:02:33,270 –> 00:02:38,220
how addicted i got to the gym I
sometimes get blinded by the need to be

37
00:02:38,220 –> 00:02:43,530
a beginning that I let other things go
and my family puts me in my place every

38
00:02:43,530 –> 00:02:46,890
once in awhile so what steps did you
take to get started

39
00:02:47,400 –> 00:02:51,660
small steps really basically just
started with the gym and you know

40
00:02:51,660 –> 00:02:56,820
focused on moving regularly and first I
walked the nice increase my speed and I

41
00:02:56,820 –> 00:03:01,410
start running then I started taking
classes where I lifted weights and some

42
00:03:01,410 –> 00:03:06,930
spinning classes which are horrible but
worth it at the end then I focus on what

43
00:03:06,930 –> 00:03:11,100
i ate and no just portion control and
measure just about everything I eat make

44
00:03:11,100 –> 00:03:15,690
sure I count my calories even though I
hate doing it so you recently read your

45
00:03:15,690 –> 00:03:19,620
first 5k and you’re planning on running
a half marathon soon could you talk

46
00:03:19,620 –> 00:03:24,510
about the experience that you had
leading up to the 5k sure previously

47
00:03:24,510 –> 00:03:29,70
before i even thought about paying
people to run money can’t believe i’m

48
00:03:29,70 –> 00:03:33,870
still doing that my sister for some
reason convinced me to run a half

49
00:03:33,870 –> 00:03:39,930
marathon with her which i never thought
i would do because it’s 13.1 miles which

50
00:03:39,930 –> 00:03:45,840
seems crazy to me but for some reason
after you know through the bases are

51
00:03:45,840 –> 00:03:49,800
they do all this half marathons
marathons all the time so i can do that

52
00:03:49,800 –> 00:03:50,820
sure

53
00:03:50,820 –> 00:03:56,549
so I was training for it at the gym just
reach three miles when this girl I know

54
00:03:56,550 –> 00:04:01,680
from the gym approached me and she’s
like so why you runnin I’m like oh you

55
00:04:01,680 –> 00:04:06,390
know training for a half marathon it’s
just like really only yeah my sister

56
00:04:06,390 –> 00:04:10,799
talked me into it she going should do
this 5k i’m organizing like okay

57
00:04:11,700 –> 00:04:15,720
oh really nervous about that because I
don’t really enjoy running outside but

58
00:04:15,720 –> 00:04:20,940
like a lot of be good practice so two
weeks later the 5k was supposed to be so

59
00:04:20,940 –> 00:04:25,650
I was like I really gotta focus running
at the gym nail so when the 5k started I

60
00:04:25,650 –> 00:04:29,250
was extremely nervous only make sure if
I’d be able to finish it because I’ve

61
00:04:29,250 –> 00:04:34,20
never run outside for any . length of
time but i was able to do it push myself

62
00:04:34,20 –> 00:04:38,880
through it i ran in 3143 so that was
pretty impressive

63
00:04:40,230 –> 00:04:45,380
there’s only about a group of 50 people
there and so but I was first in my

64
00:04:45,380 –> 00:04:50,60
age trick site about that so now that
that’s over now you really got to focus

65
00:04:50,60 –> 00:04:54,860
on reading this kind of half marathon
and i have c finally went up to four

66
00:04:54,860 –> 00:04:57,470
miles only got nine to go

67
00:04:57,470 –> 00:05:05,390
oh but small steps and push myself i try
to run a mile extra each we try to build

68
00:05:05,390 –> 00:05:10,190
my strength up well with half marathons
I mean once you get to about 10 miles

69
00:05:10,190 –> 00:05:11,719
you’re you’re fine

70
00:05:11,720 –> 00:05:17,90
he’s look at the lecture 3 miles
together oh that’s basically I thought

71
00:05:17,90 –> 00:05:20,239
about it when I was doing the 5k seems
like it happened there are almost done

72
00:05:20,240 –> 00:05:24,140
just got to keep pushing myself but it’s
pretty exciting

73
00:05:24,920 –> 00:05:28,880
my mom actually brought my little one to
see me raise my first 5k and she was

74
00:05:28,880 –> 00:05:30,710
there at the end which is really
exciting

75
00:05:30,710 –> 00:05:36,140
she’s apparently saw me way before my
mom didn’t like it comes movie if I was

76
00:05:36,140 –> 00:05:40,190
running toward it just made it so much
better than those people to see here at

77
00:05:40,190 –> 00:05:44,480
the end that’s great do you plan on
running anymore 5 case between them

78
00:05:44,990 –> 00:05:50,750
yeah well we’re doing the Color Run
which is the another 5k but i don’t

79
00:05:50,750 –> 00:05:53,330
really we’re doing in a big groups that
we’re never gonna be running the whole

80
00:05:53,330 –> 00:05:58,520
thing so i won’t really don’t like a
really count as running a 5k key because

81
00:05:58,520 –> 00:06:03,380
those hold most people walk in any way
other than that now i’m probably gonna

82
00:06:03,380 –> 00:06:07,310
save up and just focus on the
half-marathon yeah races can definitely

83
00:06:07,310 –> 00:06:13,940
expensive and like I said it could never
imagine myself paying someone to let me

84
00:06:13,940 –> 00:06:14,870
run

85
00:06:14,870 –> 00:06:20,750
yeah yeah i mean i pay for disney run
this they got my number ok so when you

86
00:06:20,750 –> 00:06:24,860
got started running and working out and
trying to live a healthier lifestyle

87
00:06:24,860 –> 00:06:30,110
what roblox did you hit a lot of mental
blocks mostly lot of negativity in my

88
00:06:30,110 –> 00:06:32,810
own head telling myself that I couldn’t
do it

89
00:06:32,810 –> 00:06:37,550
that wasn’t strong enough that I was
being judged at the gym cuz im so heavy

90
00:06:37,550 –> 00:06:42,200
you know in my head I was thinking you
know people called her she’s so heavy

91
00:06:42,200 –> 00:06:46,670
and she’s trying to run on the Cardinal
i still have that thought sometimes

92
00:06:46,670 –> 00:06:51,530
using a nice skinny girl but you know
you just gotta focus on this is for me

93
00:06:51,530 –> 00:06:56,000
and not for anybody else and I really
care what other people say or think it’s

94
00:06:56,000 –> 00:06:57,740
a very mental thing

95
00:06:57,740 –> 00:07:02,90
trying to lose weight you have to be
able to focus on you and tell yourself

96
00:07:02,90 –> 00:07:06,830
that you’re stronger and that you’re
capable of doing it and it’s just in

97
00:07:06,830 –> 00:07:10,609
your head that that you can I battle
every time i’m running on the treadmill

98
00:07:10,610 –> 00:07:13,880
I battle and like I can’t do this I
can’t do this and I’m like I can you

99
00:07:13,880 –> 00:07:17,330
think two things later like why am i
doing the key to this isn’t this like

100
00:07:17,330 –> 00:07:23,30
yes you can you’re stronger you can do
this and music actually helps me a lot

101
00:07:23,30 –> 00:07:27,710
and have to focus on the music otherwise
I’m just a loss for everything i know a

102
00:07:27,710 –> 00:07:33,318
couple times when I’ve left my ipod home
I’m like I’m screw cuz now I can’t focus

103
00:07:33,319 –> 00:07:37,340
on anything but running and there’s just
wasn’t able to pull it through but it’s

104
00:07:37,340 –> 00:07:42,440
very mental I know when I run I i have
to have music generally because i don’t

105
00:07:42,440 –> 00:07:48,20
like to hear myself breathe which is
very bad for my ear but what music do

106
00:07:48,20 –> 00:07:53,719
you listen to when you run to help focus
my music case actually varies quite a

107
00:07:53,720 –> 00:07:58,250
bit especially when i’m running couple
of things like christina aguilera

108
00:07:58,250 –> 00:08:02,750
fighter that’s a very big motivator for
me some Britney Spears has some good

109
00:08:02,750 –> 00:08:07,159
beats that I like to run to three days
grace I like to run to breaking benjamin

110
00:08:07,159 –> 00:08:12,770
has a good song like 210 Ryan I’m gonna
it’s all very very out-there disturbed

111
00:08:12,770 –> 00:08:17,840
at least mr. to as long as it has a good
beat and I can it makes me feel like I

112
00:08:17,840 –> 00:08:23,299
need to run faster all Metallica fuel as
a really good one that helps me going

113
00:08:23,300 –> 00:08:28,969
yeah yes very very well having a big
music palette helps i’ve heard that from

114
00:08:28,969 –> 00:08:32,719
other people that they’ll listen to
music that they would normally listen to

115
00:08:32,719 –> 00:08:36,979
a neighbor on they would normally listen
to it when they do anything else in

116
00:08:36,979 –> 00:08:38,29
their life

117
00:08:38,29 –> 00:08:42,169
so how did you overcome a lot of these
roadblocks mental robots you said that

118
00:08:42,169 –> 00:08:47,839
you you would know you tell yourself
that you can do it and that’s awesome

119
00:08:47,839 –> 00:08:51,800
could you go deeper into how you
overcome these types of problems I had

120
00:08:51,800 –> 00:08:58,849
to focus on what i felt was worth it for
me as soon as I start losing the weight

121
00:08:58,850 –> 00:09:05,690
and how fault i looked in the mirror
with how trying on clothes and being

122
00:09:06,220 –> 00:09:12,580
soon . soon soon soon as I start
dropping sizes and i was able to go into

123
00:09:12,580 –> 00:09:15,880
stores that didn’t have plus size
clothes because all throughout my life

124
00:09:15,880 –> 00:09:19,750
you know especially growing up in high
school I was always in the plus-size

125
00:09:19,750 –> 00:09:26,920
stores you know 20-plus and that always
was a big struggle for me especially

126
00:09:26,920 –> 00:09:28,270
clothes shopping

127
00:09:28,270 –> 00:09:32,860
I always hated it so you soon as i
started dropping the sizes and getting

128
00:09:32,860 –> 00:09:37,930
into the smaller sizes that was really
great feeling and looking into the

129
00:09:37,930 –> 00:09:41,650
mirror finally was like okay I’m
starting to like how I feel how I look

130
00:09:41,650 –> 00:09:47,290
focusing on that instead of the negative
things has really helped me push forward

131
00:09:47,290 –> 00:09:52,660
through my hard times i stumble like
their many days were I have trouble

132
00:09:52,660 –> 00:09:58,120
focusing on my healthy eating but you
only truly feel if you give up so my

133
00:09:58,120 –> 00:10:02,560
goal is to never give up and to keep
pushing board so if I have one bad day I

134
00:10:02,560 –> 00:10:07,270
can’t let myself be beat up over it i
just like okay I had a bad day i have to

135
00:10:07,270 –> 00:10:11,560
have a better day tomorrow so i get back
to the gym and focus on measuring and

136
00:10:11,560 –> 00:10:15,910
portioning and all the things you’re
supposed to just making sure i feel good

137
00:10:15,910 –> 00:10:18,370
on the inside because that’s what
matters

138
00:10:18,370 –> 00:10:22,840
so what kind of problems did you have
with the mental image of yourself when

139
00:10:22,840 –> 00:10:27,520
you would look in the mirror and you are
no longer the 300-pound person recently

140
00:10:27,520 –> 00:10:31,780
happened to me back in September when I
was at the gym I was have a class with

141
00:10:31,780 –> 00:10:35,650
the mirror and lifting weights and I
looked at myself and like who is that

142
00:10:35,650 –> 00:10:40,209
look again we are crap that’s me but
they can’t be me and like yeah it is and

143
00:10:40,210 –> 00:10:44,890
I’m just so used to seeing that 300-plus
person that you have in your mind that

144
00:10:44,890 –> 00:10:48,250
what you already supposed to look like
in the mirror you can’t take time to

145
00:10:48,250 –> 00:10:51,310
actually look at yourself and evaluating
we go

146
00:10:51,310 –> 00:10:55,959
it really is me now and issues with such
a big difference that even when I look

147
00:10:55,960 –> 00:11:00,850
back at pictures i’m like ‘who inside
you don’t realize how big you get when

148
00:11:00,850 –> 00:11:02,110
you’re 300 pounds

149
00:11:02,110 –> 00:11:04,240
most people like wonder how does a
person

150
00:11:04,240 –> 00:11:08,950
become that big how they let themselves
get that way and like you don’t realize

151
00:11:08,950 –> 00:11:13,149
it you don’t see yourself as that big it
just it sneaks up on you really does

152
00:11:13,149 –> 00:11:18,279
because you keep seeing yourself as a
person you saw before even if it was

153
00:11:18,279 –> 00:11:22,750
from some big to little little baked you
always see yourself as that one person

154
00:11:22,750 –> 00:11:27,580
until you actually do that big change
and you see yourself for the first time

155
00:11:27,580 –> 00:11:31,180
and you’re no longer that 300-plus
person you don’t realize how big you got

156
00:11:31,180 –> 00:11:35,920
your head guy is a big struggle even now
there are days where I feel like I still

157
00:11:35,920 –> 00:11:41,560
look through 220 pounds there are days
where I can’t see my pass my work

158
00:11:41,560 –> 00:11:46,719
constantly living in my past and I have
to refocus and have to tell myself

159
00:11:46,720 –> 00:11:50,680
you’re not there anymore and you’re not
the same person you are stronger better

160
00:11:50,680 –> 00:11:58,420
and you are healthier the hardest
decision I mean let’s lose the weight

161
00:11:58,420 –> 00:12:05,110
that’s for sure still hard while the
great things don’t come easy and this is

162
00:12:05,110 –> 00:12:06,550
what definitely one of them

163
00:12:06,550 –> 00:12:10,959
that’s for sure great things take time
and definitely have to work for them so

164
00:12:10,959 –> 00:12:12,640
speaking of working on them

165
00:12:12,640 –> 00:12:15,790
is there any parts of your dream that
haven’t quite worked out yet definitely

166
00:12:15,790 –> 00:12:19,240
haven’t reached my goal yet which is
something i’m still working on but

167
00:12:19,240 –> 00:12:25,959
hopefully I’ll have it done in a year
trying to get myself refocused on losing

168
00:12:25,959 –> 00:12:29,859
the weight there was a period of time
where I wasn’t as focused on it i’m

169
00:12:29,860 –> 00:12:34,29
still going to gym that I wasn’t really
s careful about what I was eating you

170
00:12:34,29 –> 00:12:34,570
think yourself

171
00:12:34,570 –> 00:12:38,740
oh I just worked out so I can have a
little bit here and but you really can’t

172
00:12:38,740 –> 00:12:42,850
because then you just kind of wiped away
everything you just work for at the gym

173
00:12:42,850 –> 00:12:45,220
I worked out and then have a good day

174
00:12:45,220 –> 00:12:49,779
so having that mental thing to look
forward to is what I had to refocus on

175
00:12:49,779 –> 00:12:54,459
so soon as i hit my goal then I’ll be so
if you were stranded on a deserted

176
00:12:54,459 –> 00:12:59,380
island with your family with three
things would you want to have with you

177
00:12:59,380 –> 00:13:04,630
tools so i can make a boat food so I
wouldn’t starve and music so when get

178
00:13:04,630 –> 00:13:10,000
bored not a bad list and not available
at all very practical list

179
00:13:10,000 –> 00:13:13,209
ok so what are your dreams for the
future look like

180
00:13:13,209 –> 00:13:15,279
definitely hit my goal with my weight
loss

181
00:13:15,279 –> 00:13:20,379
to get stronger every day and to finish
college which was recently just went

182
00:13:20,379 –> 00:13:26,379
back to and to maybe one day open my own
bakery stop to stay fit and healthy when

183
00:13:26,379 –> 00:13:31,300
you have a career he is one of my
favorite things to do is to bake and it

184
00:13:31,300 –> 00:13:37,420
does not coincide with trying to be fit
but something I love to do so i had to

185
00:13:37,420 –> 00:13:38,620
make it all work

186
00:13:38,620 –> 00:13:42,519
so do you have any last thoughts you’d
like to share it doesn’t matter where

187
00:13:42,519 –> 00:13:46,990
you are in life what you are in like if
you believe in yourself that’s all that

188
00:13:46,990 –> 00:13:51,279
really matters doesn’t matter what
anybody else says or what they do what

189
00:13:51,279 –> 00:13:54,939
you need to focus on you and do what
makes you happy as long as you’re happy

190
00:13:54,939 –> 00:13:56,439
that’s all that matters

191
00:13:56,439 –> 00:13:59,860
