Wasn’t the cause of his margin problems, his CAC? It’s something Mr. Wonderful likes to claim he is an expert in reducing. If Mr. Wonderful can reduce the CAC by more than 7%, then it’s worth considering having Mr. Wonderful on your team?
@Joe Pardo I’ve got to imagine with someone like Mr. Wonderful’s skills, he should be able to reduce the CAC significantly. I’m sure he has an agency, or someone on his team that does nothing all but reducing CAC, and SEO optimising?

I would image he does have a team of people he relies on to help with that. But just because you are good at one, a few, or even many different industries at marketing, doesn’t necessarily translate for every niche. If that was the case, Kevin should just be running his own drop shipping business with that team as the engine and not worry about investing directly into most businesses.

You’re forgetting the nature of the investors on this show. It’s true that they are looking for businesses that can scale. They are experienced investors, looking for a big payout over the medium term. They are not really interested in small, independent, family owned businesses, like convenience stores as an example. There are plenty of these. Nothing unique. Nothing super profitable about them. The sharks and dragons don’t want that. They want to passively invest their money and not micromanage their money.
Andrew, from Australian Shark Tank made an interesting point. As a serious investor, investor opportunities come like busses to him. If he doesn’t like that bus, another one will come along shortly that might be better for him, eventually, he will find a bus that he will like and get on it. When he explained it like that, and why some sharks or dragons pass on “good” investment opportunities, it totally made sense, and I look at these opportunities completely differently now.
As for Amazon. He is paying a lot for his ads. It’s going to work like Google AdWords, where you bid on keywords, and each category’s cost is different, as people are willing to pay more for certain categories and keywords. It’s an auction.
